**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Director of Tailings, the Environmental Officer will be responsible for providing assurance with respect to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance for Impala Canada’s the Lac des Iles mine. The role will be responsible for providing day-to-day direction to site environmental staff, developing and leading environmental monitoring and reclamation projects, providing environmental and permitting support for various engineering projects, and managing the environmental department budget. The role will be based at Impala Canada’s Lac des Iles mine and will follow a 4 day on (Tuesday to Friday)/ 3 day off work schedule.
**Responsibilities**:
Work in accordance with Lac des Iles Environmental standards - actively leading, and engaging in Environmental initiatives
Providing day to day direction to site environmental staff;
Developing, implementing and coordinating environmental monitoring, sampling, and inspection schedules;
Assist with the collection and reporting of environmental data to satisfy both internal and legislative requirements
Lead the development and implementation of the ISO14001 Management System
Provide technical support to ensure overall site environmental compliance to all permits, licenses, government/agency regulations, and other legal agreements
Provide a lead role in environmental incident reporting, investigations, and development of effective and practical corrective actions
Implementation of key environmental programs and initiatives as directed by the Director of Tailings
Interact with environmental contractors, professionals and key stakeholders
Maintain Impala Canada’s water stewardship strategy to include all water management both inside and outside the property, including consumption, transport, treatment, discharge, measurement, permitting, accounting, and reporting elements.
Prepare reports, documents and correspondence related to routine/straightforward environmental assessments and make decisions and/or recommendations as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Environmental Studies
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in environmental sampling, data processing, statistical analysis, regulatory reporting and environmental permitting
Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills
Ability to lead people and to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
Strong analytical, problem - solving and decision-making abilities, excellent organizational and time management skills.
Expertise in potable water systems, geomatics, mine closure and site rehabilitation are definite assets
Knowledge of carbon footprint reporting is an asset
Prior mining or other extractive industry experience is an asset
Strong process mapping and documentation skills.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 International Standards for Environment.
Familiarization with ISO documentation requirements.
Strong project management skills.
Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
