We are hiring a Health and Safety Coordinator responsible for the implementation, compliance monitoring and continuous improvement of our company’s health and safety program including safety related direction and support to our field workers. The Health and Safety Coordinator needs to be firm yet personable and conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism while being highly visible in a client-facing role.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Enforce and monitor compliance of employees and subtrades with Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulation and code as well as company specific safety policies and procedures across multiple project locations.
- Perform regular office and on-site toolbox meetings, project safety inspections, incident investigations and induct new hires into our safety program with comprehensive safety orientations.
- Timely reporting to management of safety issues, incidents or regulatory changes.
- Procurement and distribution of PPE to field employees.
- Safety equipment maintenance, certification and associated documentation, as required.
- Manage our safety training program including booking employee safety certifications and training courses, ensuring timely re-certifications, and maintaining an updated in-house training database.
- In collaboration with our project coordinators and project managers, develop site specific written emergency response plans and hazard assessments for projects as they are awarded.
- Ongoing update and/or development of safety policies, procedures and SWP/SJPs to meet changes in project scope, legislation or client requirement.
- Act as a professional face for our company while liaising with subcontractor and client safety contacts, as directed.
- Complete annual internal safety audits and facilitate external auditors every three years to maintain our COR status and participate as a reciprocal auditor.
- Act as an approachable resource to all employees on health and safety information in the workplace.
- Participate in and provide information and leadership to the company safety committee.

**Qualifications**:

- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Certification required.
- Gold Seal Construction Safety Coordinator Certification and/or post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Bachelor’s Degree in Occupation Safety and Health or related field experience are assets.
- Health and Safety Auditor Certification required.
- WHIMIS Train the Trainer Certification required.
- Valid Standard First Aid Level C with AED or higher required, Advanced First Aider is preferred.
- 3+ years practical commercial/light industrial construction industry safety experience required.
- Previous trade related experience an asset.
- Computer literate with experience with MS Office 365 suite.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and a clean driving record required.
- Detailed knowledge of OHS with the background experience required to interpret, document and investigate when required.
- Knowledge of WCB policies and procedures including return to work and modified work requirements to integrate injured workers back into our workforce in a safe and effective manner.
- Approachable with excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to speak in front of groups.
- Ability to manage confrontations in a positive manner and maintain professionalism when enforcing safety concerns.
- Ability to pass security clearance and drug/alcohol testing, as required for client pre-access screening

Additional training that would be an asset includes Principles of Health & Safety Management, Leadership for Safety Excellence, Construction Safety Administration, Basic Instructional Techniques, Prime Contractor, Communications and Ethics for the Safety Professional, Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Alberta Legislation Awareness, CSTS - Construction Safety, Fall Protection, Scaffolding Awareness, Ground Disturbance and Construction Environmental Awareness.

**Note that this position includes periods of office work with extended computer use, travel to and from job sites around Edmonton and area and work on-site which may be in and out of doors and requires PPE and ability to lift/walk/climb as required around site.

Pay: $50,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
