**Position**:Summer Student - Children & Community Events Organizer

The Candora Society of Edmonton has an employment opportunity for a Children & Community Events Organizer. This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours per week) for 8 weeks. As part of the Summer Program team, the Children & Community Events Organizer will support Candora’s summer family programs including community events, family field trips, and other activities. This opportunity is being funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs program and is for someone between 15 and 30 looking to gain experience working in human services.

**Who We Are**

The Candora Society is a non-profit organization with a community development mandate to work with the residents of Northeast Edmonton to create a positive environment for families to live and grow and to collectively address issues of concern in our communities. The organization has a long history of grass-roots community development that is built upon a participatory learning approach and relationship
- based practice to help affect positive change in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Work with the Family and Community Special Events Coordinator and Candora Staff to implement Candora’s Summer Programs.
- Support the development and implementation of planned activities including preparing supplies, creating tools, and preparing activity locations.
- Directly facilitate activities alongside Candora Staff in a respectful, supportive, and engaging manner.
- Help organize and facilitate preschool field trips.
- Assist with Candora’s annual Multicultural Day event.
- Prepare lunches for field trips.
- Support the gardening program for preschool program participants.
- Perform administrative tasks - maintain field trip sign ups/waitlists, reporting.
- Communicate and engage with partnering agencies and other community stakeholders.
- Attend team meetings.
- Other activities as needed.

**Qualifications, Skills & Competencies**
- Knowledge of community development or experience is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills.
- Self-directed, and an ability to collaborate well with other team members.
- Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of the Candora Society.
- Strong orientation to community oriented, relationship-based work including an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of participants/community members.
- Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethics.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Police Security Check and Child Welfare Check are required.
- Must be between 15 - 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee status.
- Valid Social Insurance Number, that does not start with a 9. International youth are not eligible participants.

**Employment type**:Temporary position will end after 8-week term

**Hours of work**:Monday - Friday (8:30 am - 4:00 pm) 35 hours per week

**Expected Start Date**: July 2, 2024

**Wage**: $15.00/hour
