**The Role**:
Provides communications support for the Children & Youth Planning Table (CYPT) and Smart Waterloo Region (SWR) initiative. This includes developing and/or coordinating program and project communications, media communications, print and digital communications, strategic positioning and narrative development, social media, and engaging online communication platforms. Collaborates with internal and external partners and participates in engagement sessions and events.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:
Develops program and project messaging for new and existing initiatives that emphasize the importance of child and youth well-being.

Develops and coordinates program descriptions for communication partners to internal and external staff and partners.

Coordinates communications for collaborative projects between SWR and CYPT.

Participates, collaborates, and works closely with communications staff in the Department and in corporate Communications and Engagement to identify communications opportunities for internal and external purposes, ensure proper communication processes are implemented, and ensure appropriate council members and senior staff across the Region and area municipalities are briefed.

Works alongside CYPT and SWR staff and partners to receive input and feedback regarding communication materials, approach, and positioning.

Develops innovative communication materials targeted at multiple audiences (children and youth, caring adults, educators, municipal councils, senior management and staff, child and youth service organizations, private sector businesses, senior levels of government, and the public) including monthly bulletins and major publications.

Works with staff to ensure plain language, multi-lingual communications, and AODA is built into new communication materials and channels that aligns with children, youth, and the general public in Waterloo Region.

Writes, revises, and reviews materials and content for print, website, and social media. Modifies and adapts messaging according to medium and audience. Proofreads and edits materials prepared by self and others, per policies, procedures, and standards.

Works with staff to develop and coordinate engagement sessions with youth, community and project partners, and the public.

Works closely with corporate Creative Multimedia Services (CMS) to support brand development for both SWR and CYPT. Provides video and photography content for work required for publications, projects, and general communications with different audiences, in consultation with CMS as applicable.

Prepares media alerts and news releases regarding projects, milestone achievements, reports, and events. Responds to and support the development of responses to media inquiries. Maintains media and contact lists.

Creates content and maintains social media and online communication platforms, such as website(s). Liaises with ITS and vendors to troubleshoot issues.

Works closely with corporate Creative Multimedia Services (CMS) as applicable to coordinate, or coordinates production of material for public awareness campaigns (e.g., brochures, posters, advertisements). Takes photographs and videos. Obtains content, writes text, prepares mock layouts, and coordinates graphic and print completion. Completes purchase orders for management authorization for design work and print production.

Identifies opportunities for distributing positive communications to support program mandate.

Contacts businesses, not-for-profits, and community organizations regarding opportunities for support.

Performs related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
Must have a related 3-year diploma/degree, plus 2 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience such as a 2-year diploma in a related discipline plus 3 years of related experience.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, communication and graphics standards, and related legislation (e.g., accessibility, privacy).

Knowledge of engagement strategies with different audiences (e.g., children and youth, school boards, elected officials, and senior management).

Ability to participate collaboratively as an effective team member.
