Land Use Planner

Brighter Community Planning & Consulting (BCP) is a Windsor based boutique consulting firm that specializes in community consultation, land use planning, and strategic planning. We believe that development is based on community knowledge, empirical data, and solid planning principles.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic University Summer Co-op Student to join our team as a Land Use Planner. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a student pursuing a degree in urban planning, geography, environmental studies, or a related field to gain practical experience in the field of land use planning.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review plans of survey, official plans, and zoning by-laws to determine compliance with existing and proposed development.
- Report writing
- Plan Policy development
- Support public engagement activities, including public meetings and workshops
- Manage online engagement tools (survey monkey, MailChimp, Twitter and others)
- Research planning issues
- Assist senior planners with research, data analysis, and preparation of planning documents
- Collaborate with team members on special projects and initiatives as needed.
**Requirements and Attributes**
- Currently enrolled in a university program with a focus on urban planning, geography, environmental studies or a related field.
- Good knowledge of a variety of computer programs or the ability to learn them quickly. (Office products, Adobe, Word Press)
- Knowledge of GIS an asset
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Exceptional interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Advanced analytical and research skills
- Impeccable time-management skills
- Passion for creating sustainable and inclusive communities
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team setting and individually
- Willingness to learn and grow
- An entrepreneurial spirit
- Graphic design/InDesign experience.
This is a full-time position for the duration of the summer term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
