**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Secretary I is responsible for providing general office duties and accurate data entry and transcription in support of the Laboratory Department. Duties include, but are not limited to: registering patients and entering doctors’ lab orders through Meditech; assisting in entering specimens from outside hospitals and satellite clinics; accurately typing surgical reports, consults, referral letters, memos and any other correspondence as required by the department; filing reports and maintaining filing system; sorting and delivering mail to Porters’ room and Doctors’ Lounge; assembling and delivering supplies to Doctors’ Lounge; answering the telephone; photocopying; faxing; booking appointments; maintaining supplies and any other related or allied duties assigned to support the Laboratory operation. This position may require travel within the South Shore area.

The Secretary I provides pleasant, cooperative, timely and accurate information to physicians, nursing staff and patients, exhibiting sound judgment and initiative, while working within the framework and objectives of the Service and the Organization. The Secretary I exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of the Service and of the District and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Graduate from a recognized secretarial/business administration diploma and certification in medical terminology required
- Proficiency in keyboarding and medical transcription skills with a minimum of 65 wpm with 95% accuracy is required. Experience in pathology transcription is preferred
- Experience and proficiency with Editscript required
- Experience providing data entry and clerical support in a healthcare setting
- Experience entering lab test requests in the Meditech lab module is required
- Experience accessing the NS Health Information Health Care Inquiry System
- Previous laboratory experience preferred
- Previous payroll experience preferred
- Previous experience with Qmatic booking software preferred
- Previous experience with FITs registration preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Cell track and Care Manager preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a pleasant and cooperative attitude with staff, physicians, clients, patients, both in person and over the phone
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, demonstrating sound judgment and initiative
- Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports positivity, safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

**Hours**:

- Long Assignment, Part-Time (50%) position; 35 hours bi-weekly

**Compensation and Incentives**:
$22.97 - $24.97 hourly
