Economic Development Manager

The City of Merritt is looking for an Economic Development professional to join our team as an Economic Development Manager.
As the City's lead resource on economic development matters, the Economic Development Manager applies business acumen and a passion for business growth and development to support the local community.
In this role, you take ownership of projects within the scope of your role and proactively drive initiatives and grant projects, lead and implement economic development plans and strategies.
Reporting to the Planning and Development Director, you provide professional economic development advice and recommendations to Council and report on projects, plans and programs for a healthy, dynamic and sustainable local economy. Additionally, you represent the City of Merritt regionally, provincially and nationally on all Economic Development matters and manage the budget.
You are able to build effective business relationships and collaborate with businesses, industry, community organizations and agencies, community leaders, government organizations, municipal staff and others. Your strengths in networking, communicating, listening and influencing will be essential as you work to support existing businesses, achieve goals and attract new business investment to the community.

- An undergraduate degree in Business, Communications or a related field supplemented by experience in an economic development role, preferably within a local government.
- A solid understanding of business, finance, economics, local government and municipal policies and practices, project management, real estate principles, marketing, public affairs and a diverse municipality.
- Experience planning and implementing economic development strategies and policies.
- Experience leading others and building effective business relationships.
- Experience managing a budget and/or grants, preferred.
- Strong collaboration, facilitation, planning and implementation skills.
- Ability to multi-task and proactively manage multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment.
