**Communication & Grant Officer**

The Mustard Seed Street Church has been an Integral part in fighting hunger, poverty, marginalization and restoring hope to thousands of people struggling in Greater Victoria since 1975. We are South Vancouver Island’s largest food bank and collect and redistribute 10,000 lbs. of food to 60+ organizations in our communities each weekday. We offer hot meals, advocacy, clothing and interpersonal support through our Hospitality Centre. Our services also include Family Supports such as our _Fair Start_ back to school program as well as 1200 Christmas Hampers with gifts per year. Hope Farm Healing Centre provides food support to local Indigenous peoples, addictions recovery coaching and employment training. Through these core programs we reach tens of thousands of people each month with the help of more than fifty daily volunteers and a committed base of donors.

**Position Summary**:
**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Maintain, grow, and foster relationships with major funders via effective communication.
- Collect and analyze data/information from area leads and summarize for publication and grants.
- Research and analyze past and prospective funding and partnership opportunities.
- Create and manage a grant database and communications calendar.
- Website administration, media relations and social media support as needed; and
- Support annual fundraising programs and events in collaboration with the development team.

**Qualifications**:

- Relevant Diploma/Degree, or combined equivalent of four years’ education and experience in communications or development/fundraising, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
- Relevant samples demonstrating writing, design, social media, and website skills.
- Preferred 1yr experience in grant/report writing and/or communication in the charitable sector; and
- Valid Driver’s License.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office/Teams (or equivalent);
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience prospecting and researching.
- Website maintenance/social media proficiency would be an asset.
- Graphic design experience (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) would be an asset; and
- Knowledge of the charitable and food security landscape in BC would be an asset.

**Terms of Employment**
- This position is with The Mustard Seed Street Church and requires a person who has made a Christian commitment.
- Annual salary range is $42,000 - $48,000.
- Must be willing to sign the staff code of conduct.
- This position reports to The Director of Development.
- Term: Full-Time position (37.5 hours/week);
- Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm;
- Some weekend and evening work is required.
- Must provide an acceptable criminal record check, including the level of clearance required to work with vulnerable people; and
- Must have a valid class 5 Drivers License.
