**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Applied Research and Innovation, the Research Associate contributes to multiple applied research projects at one time in the Centre for Natural Products (CNP) ensuring that all tasks are completed on schedule, and on budget. The incumbent works directly with researchers and other staff to understand challenges and potential solutions in support of applied research project delivery and day to day operations of the CNP.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Contributes to the development of the Statement of Work and project plans for individual projects, providing input on project deliverables, milestones, research methods, variables and other test parameters and data collection.
- Gathers and analyzes research data and prepares research project reports and presentations. Communicates with researchers and clients to better understand technical challenges and potential solutions.
- Develops and reviews standard operating procedures and literature reviews.
- Maintains detailed and organized records of project status and other materials as needed in Centre designated systems, leading by example using best lab practices.
- Mentors and trains students to establish a high standard for scientific credibility and rigor in applied research initiatives and approach to solutions.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in bioscience discipline, preferable biotechnology or applied chemistry.
- Experience with molecular biological techniques and plant tissue culture, laminar flow and working with bio-containment hoods would be an asset.
- Experience with GMP, GPP or other regulated work environment would be an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in extraction and analytical instrumentation, method validation, formulation, and product development (with focus on natural products and cannabis)
- Experience with process documentation and reporting; experience with statistical and product tracking software would be an asset
- Knowledgeable of a safe work environment in a laboratory setting and worker responsibilities under WHMIS
- Knowledge of Health Canada controlled drugs and substance regulations would be an asset
- Experience with basis Lab Information Systems (LIMS) software is considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate complex research principles and new knowledge
- Demonstrated skills working with a team of applied researchers/lab technologists
- Excellent computer skills and ability to create documents with tables, figures and other embedded elements
- Excellent communication skills, dealing with both internal and external clients
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
