**POSITION OVERVIEW**
Collaborating with the Finance Department to resolve billing concerns is also a key aspect.
The incumbent will exercise significant independent judgment and action while adhering to established practices and procedures. The Water Meter Operator’s work will be reviewed by a supervisor for effectiveness, adherence to safety standards, and overall workmanship and alignment with established standards and practices.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
Completion of the Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work, preferably completion of BCWWA Backflow Protection Certification, plus, considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and installation of water meters, registers and related equipment and services.
- Considerable knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards applicable to the work.
- Ability to read meters, conduct audit readings and troubleshoot routine operating issues and provide related information and assistance.
- Ability to comprehend and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with minimum supervision and to read and interpret designs, drawings, plans, charts, diagrams and layouts.
- Ability to perform skilled maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of water meters.
- Ability to operate and perform routine servicing and repair of related equipment.
- Ability to perform all assigned duties under mínimal supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
- Skill in the use of software and hardware used in the work.
**LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES**
- Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia - Class 5.
- EOCP Water Distribution - Level 2.
**HOURS OF WORK**
8 hours per day
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completion of BCWWA Backflow Protection Certification.
- Experience or general understanding on Tempest Systems Software and Neptune 360 used for water utility reading, billing and water meter records.
