Reporting to the Director Diversity, Inclusion, and Service, the Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Consultant is responsible for leadership in AR/ABR consultation and supporting the collective actions of diverse communities to promote and support the well-being of children, youth and families. The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Consultant champions social justice, working diligently to address systemic inequalities that marginalize children, youth, families, and underserved communities face while also advocating for their rights and well-being.
The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Consultant is dynamic and innovative and works with diverse community stakeholders and partners to assist in our Journey to Excellence. The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Consultant is critically reflective and passionate about social justice, social change and advocacy.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Will develop a process to review cases for Black identifying families where Black children and youth who are in and from care, and for children and youth who are at risk of coming into care.
2. Work with Service Teams to develop plans for the reintegration of the children and youth within 60 days from the date of being placed in a place of safety
3. Work with service teams to ensure referrals for all racialized children and youth are made to affinity groups
4. Work in collaboration with the Family Placement team to ensure that the cultural needs of the children and youth are met
5. Work with supervisors/managers to ensure that all racialized families are referred to our cultural wraparound services such as Akoma, SAATH, SEEA, and related and enhancing the capacity of workers to understand the impact of injustices (racism, anti-black racism, oppression, discrimination, harassment) on marginalized service recipients.
6. Engage in collaboration with Youth Success and local educational institutions to establish mentorship programs for Black youth, promoting academic excellence and future career opportunities.
7. In collaboration with the Early Help Team to the supervisor work with community partners including school and police, etc, to develop anti-racism plans to address issues of disproportionality and Disparity of service.
8. Take leading role in our Black Employee Network and Diversity and Inclusion Council to promote the need to address disproportionality and disparity of services.
9. In partnership with Training and Development, provide training to staff on the impact of racism, anti-black racism, oppression, discrimination, harassment, bullying and related injustices on the health and well-being of black children, youth, and families and racialized children, youth and families. The training should be in alignment with the OVOV 11 Race Equity Practices, use of the African Canadian service delivery model and Black Leadership Mentorship program.
10. Provide evidence-based tools to build the capacity of workers and families that we work with to deal with issues of anti-racism, anti-black racism and related injustices

Community Engagement
1. Work with diverse communities in the Peel Region to assess needs, capacities, social planning and or social action/advocacy
2. Work in partnership with OACAS and other agencies to implement One vision One voice race equity practices.
3. Build community awareness to support early intervention programs, admission prevention and permanency planning strategy
4. Collaborate with the Community Engagement Supervisor to develop outreach strategies aimed at fostering connections with underserved communities, with a primary focus on raising awareness about the availability of essential support services.
5. Collaborate with Youth Success to support and foster partnerships with local businesses to create internship and job placement opportunities tailored to empower youth from marginalized backgrounds.
6. Maintain records and statistical data, conduct research in collaboration with the Strategic Data Intelligence
7. Provide research-based systemized feedback to agency to improve service delivery for Black, African and Caribbean clients
