**Regional Consultation Coordinator - Region 6**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta - Peace River, AB.

Other locations in the NW Region may be considered, with remote work

**Position Status**: Permanent Full-Time (40 hrs per week)

**Key Responsibilities**

The Regional Consultation Coordinator will report to and receive instructions from the Consultation Team Lead and MNA leadership in Region 6. Duties include:

- Respond to notices for consultation.
- Input industry notifications into propriety MNA software.
- Streamline consultation workflow to meet the unique requirements of Region 6.
- Management of the consultation process.
- Prepare consultation work plans.
- Negotiate with proponents for budgets in support of the consultation process.
- Undertake research or studies, including field studies, as required.
- Coordinate and conduct community engagement in support of the consultation process.
- Negotiate accommodations for the benefit of the Region 6 Métis Community.
- Review reports and other materials and provide briefings and memos on consultation files, as required.
- Prepare updates and reports on consultation files, as needed. This could include preparing monthly and project-based reporting to the Consultation Team Lead and Region 6 leadership.
- Participate in meetings, both internally and externally.

**Skills & Competencies**

The RCC must possess excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. The RCC will ultimately manage the consultation process to ensure that Métis communities within Region 6 have an opportunity for meaningful consultation to raise concerns and discuss potential mitigation options. Other skills and qualifications include:

- In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial indigenous consultation requirements.
- Knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessments and Federal Bills C-68 and C-69.
- Ability to work with Elders and, at intermittent times, have the fitness and ability to operate in the bush to conduct Traditional Land Use studies and projects.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work well with community members.
- Exercise discretion in handling confidential and politically sensitive information. Strong political sensitivity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and partners.
- Ability to identify and respond to sensitive community, organizational, and provincial council issues, concerns, and needs.
- Ability to remain organized, multi-task, and manage time effectively under tight and competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, interpret and convey positions appropriately.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of a University Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Native Studies, Political Science, or Public Administration) supplemented by 4 years of directly related experience is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Strong computer skills with aptitude for using new software.
- Knowledge and experience in Métis rights, and of Métis history, culture and people.
- Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is an asset.
- Experience working in government/ government policies is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Position will be based in Peace River. Other areas within the NW Region may be considered.
- Some travel within Alberta is a requirement. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
- Must have a driver’s license and an operational vehicle.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends if needed.
