Job Overview:
The Data Governance Specialist is a key contributor to the development and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and processes. This role focuses on ensuring the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of organizational data, aligning data practices with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of data stewardship. The Data Governance Specialist collaborates with various stakeholders to establish and maintain effective data governance practices across the organization.

**Your future duties and responsibilities**

Data Governance Framework:
Contribute to the development and refinement of the organization's data governance framework.

Define and document data governance policies, standards, and procedures.

Ensure alignment of data governance practices with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Data Stewardship:

- Facilitate the identification and appointment of data stewards across business units.
- Collaborate with data stewards to establish and enforce data quality standards.
- Provide guidance and support to data stewards in their role of overseeing data assets.

Data Privacy and Compliance:

- Monitor and ensure compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
- Work with legal and compliance teams to interpret and implement data-related regulations.
- Conduct regular assessments to identify and mitigate data governance risks.

Data Lifecycle Management:

- Develop and implement policies and procedures for effective data lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure proper data archiving, retention, and disposal practices.
- Establish and maintain metadata management practices.

Data Quality Monitoring:

- Implement tools and processes for monitoring and reporting on data quality metrics.
- Collaborate with data quality specialists to address and resolve data quality issues.
- Conduct regular audits to assess the effectiveness of data governance measures.

Training and Awareness:

- Develop and deliver training programs on data governance principles and best practices.
- Raise awareness of the importance of data governance across the organization.
- Foster a culture of responsibility and accountability for data governance.

Collaboration and Communication:

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, compliance, and business units.
- Communicate data governance policies and guidelines to stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between business units and IT for data governance matters.

**Required qualifications to be successful in this role**
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Information Management, Data Governance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in data governance or a related role.
- In-depth knowledge of data governance principles, policies, and practices.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and experience implementing compliance measures.
- Strong understanding of metadata management and data lifecycle concepts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey data governance concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica Axon, or similar).
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive data governance initiatives.
- Relevant certifications in data governance (e.g., Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP)
