Core laboratory offerings include customized special chemistry, special histology and molecular diagnostic services.. MSS is looking for a skilled and experienced laboratory professional who is aligned with our purpose to join the MSS team as the Laboratory Manager.
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the client and quality focused operations of the Mount Sinai Services (MSS) Laboratory. The Laboratory Manager supports the goals and objectives of MSS by ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of clinical research services. The Laboratory Manager ensures the continuous monitoring of MSS Laboratory operations to capitalize on opportunities and exceed the expectations of internal and external clients. The Laboratory Manager is a quality mentor that promotes teamwork, open communication, knowledge sharing and continuous learning within MSS.
RESPONSIBILITIES
**Technical Supervision**
- Monitor all services to ensure that the workflow for the lab is aligned with MSS goals and objectives
- Ensure that technical operations and workflow are coordinated for maximum efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring best practice and standards alignment are continuously maintained with respect to quality, TAT, and client satisfaction
- Maintain appropriate documentation on corrective/preventative action taken and troubleshoots any issues arising escalating as required
- Provide oversight for the Laboratory Project Coordinator (LPC) to ensure that all new projects are developed with adequate laboratory and human resources
- Monitor and develop the liaison between the LPC and the Client Care Coordinator to provide clear, consistent, and realistic expectations between the billing and laboratory components of MSS
- Provide support to the LPC by reviewing quotes and billing documentation
**Human Resources Management**
- Provide support to the Senior MLT and LPC ensuring regular touch-points
- Provide support to the technical team by conducting daily walk-throughs and active team engagement
- Ensure scheduling efficiencies to achieve expected workload, TATs, and other service requirements and standards
- Assist MSS leadership with the selection, promotion, and management of staff including performance management
- Fulfill activities related to Occupational Health and Safety, HR, and Payroll as required
- Develop and implement an orientation program for new employees and promote staff and student training and professional development
**Client Liaison**
- Contribute to research and development activities, and the development and establishment of new projects and procedures
- Maintain a positive working relationship with industry and academic clients
- Participate in business development meetings, committees and working groups as appropriate
**Financial Effectiveness**
- Monitor project flow through each study/service ensuring TAT achievement
- Oversee the generation and management of all client quotations and invoices by working with the LPC
- Maintain appropriate utilization of supplies with a commitment to ensuring efficiencies and reducing costs and waste
- Assist MSS Leadership with the achievement of budget targets and ensure the proactive monitoring of expenses
- Coordinate team members to ensure optimized scheduling and work flow efficiency
**Regulatory / Accreditation Standards**
- Maintain and promote effective professional regulatory criteria by accreditation agencies such as IQMH and CAP, as well as other regulatory agencies such as Health Canada and FDA for specialized projects
- In partnership with Quality Lead team members, serves as a quality role model for the team, translating regulatory and accreditation standards into tactical action
- Promotes and encourages team members to collaborate and proactively contribute to ongoing quality improvement
- Perform other duties related to the positions as required
- Job Requirements- Active general registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- A minimum of three (3) years’ technical experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting
