_**Position Title**:_Employment, Life Skills & Training (ELST) Program Coordinator
- **Wachiay Friendship Centre Society**:_

Mission: To build a strong community rooted in the philosophy and cultures of our peoples.
- **Position Summary**:_

The ELST Program Coordinator will organize, create, and seek out supports in order to increased Indigenous workforce participation and skills training, with the goal to obtain transferrable skills that respond to labour needs and/or priorities identified by Indigenous communities. They will maintain records of participants, record outcomes, maintain a budget, and produce a final program report at the end of the fiscal year.
- **Key Duties and Responsibilities**:_
- Provide flexible (day, evening and weekend) timely and culturally sensitive supports for clients Social and Educational needs.
- Liaise with K’omoks First Nation staff to establish connections and a network within the community.
- Network with agencies and organizations to build strong relationships and strategic partnerships within the entire Comox Valley Region and contiguous unincorporated rural areas plus Denman and Hornby Islands.
- Support clients in assessing needed supports, and education services.
- Support parents and caregivers with information, tools and resources tailored to their youth’s needs.
- Assist clients to access services and supports and to advocate on their behalf.
- Facilitate multi-week cohort or group programming directed toward skills building, training, work readiness and career planning.
- Provide information and recommendations to other professionals working with or involved with the client.
- Participate in meetings with other professionals assisting your clients.
- Establish support networks.
- Provide community educational opportunities for supporting clients.
- Generate enthusiasm and excitement about the prospects of participants finding work.
- Provide constant feedback regarding Participant progress and participation in workshops.
- Maintain program specific promotional materials for the purpose of recruitment of clientele.
- Networking and collaboration with other professionals, local committees, service providers and agencies that provide services and programs for the clients.
- Maintain program budget and ensure reports are completed as required by the funder.
- Maintain current client information, and track data using the Client Tracking Database system provided.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security protocols to protect client information.
- Maintain professional relationships while working with community partners.
- All other duties and responsibilities delegated by BCAAFC and Wachiay.
- **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:_
- Knowledge of Canada’s First Nation People
- Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources & government programs.
- Knowledge of job search techniques, career development, and issues relating to the unemployed.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

- Ability to exercise patience and a positive attitude
- **Education and Experience**_

Education: Degree in Social Work, or associated public service degrees. Personal experience, Letters of Recommendation and a College Diploma in a related field will be considered in lieu of a post-secondary degree.

Experience: Creating and targeting resumes to specific jobs with clients one to one. Delivering basic life skills and essential work skills programs; conducting and interpreting Client Needs Assessments; coaching and mentoring Clients; working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds; and building partnerships with employers, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
- **Key Approach and Responsibilities**_

The Program Coordinator will serve all First Nations people and clientele regardless of residence.

The ELST Program Coordinator will assess needs, facilitate counseling/coaching, assist with job searching, connect clientele of all ages to needed services, remove stress of navigating complex systems, support clients through training and education, and involve relevant partners in each case as necessary, to expediently move clientele successfully through the program.
- **Compensation**_

This is a professional position with concomitant compensation. Wages will be based on Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience as well as the funded budget.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 25-35 per week

**Salary**: From $28.00 per hour
