Compensation Range

Job Summary

The Centre for Climate Justice (CCJ) Program and Engagement Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the CCJ at UBC, including the development and management of CCJ campus and community engagement activities, events, communications, and outreach across UBC and to external partners. The Manager will work with the Research Manager and co-directors to support strategic planning and performance tracking and the long-term success of the Centre.

Organizational Status

The Manager will work with CCJ co-directors and Research Manager, and coordinate with CCJ governance bodies and multiple stakeholders from Indigenous communities, non-profit, academic, and government sectors. Position will be required to provide non-academic supervision to graduate and undergraduate students and community members in the completion of their roles. The position works with wide latitude, performing work independently with mínimal guidance. Works closely with members of the Arts Communications team and Arts Communications Network, and various campus communicators. The position will report directly to co-directors.

- Program Management_
- Identifies opportunities for knowledge mobilization, policy intervention, and collaboration across disciplines at UBC and with other universities, institutions and organizations.
- In collaboration with the co-directors & research manager, provides leadership, sets direction and oversees campus and community engagement activities for CCJ at UBC, including developing program structure, budget and timelines, assigning resources, tracking progress, implementation, and reporting.
- Facilitates meetings on program development for campus and community engagement.
- Prepares and monitors timetables and work plans.
- Ensures and facilitates communication between CCJ and other research and program clusters across UBC and with other partnering universities and institutions.
- Works with Research Manager and co-directors to prepare progress reports, including annual activity and performance reports.
- Reviews agreements between CCJ and external agencies including funding agencies, university and government departments in consultation with principal investigators, UILO, and/or the co-directors and resolves discrepancies to completion.
- Negotiates and establishes contracts for services with suppliers.
- Fundraising_
- Leads the development and implementation of CCJ fundraising strategy to ensure long-term organizational success, in collaboration with UBC DAE, CCJ Research Manager, and co-directors.
- Identifies funding opportunities for CCJ campus and community engagement programming
- Leads the reporting process for non-research funding, with support of other CCJ staff.
- Outreach and Communications_
- Responds to requests and inquiries from potential partners and collaborators, and conducts complex and sensitive correspondence with regard to CCJ collaborations.
- Works with co-directors and Research Manager to identify key stakeholders for outreach and collaboration, leading outreach and collaborations with partners (including forming agreements).
- Works with researchers, students and staff to promote CCJ and build partnerships.
- Manages public relations activities in conjunction with Research Manager and co-directors, as well as senior university administrators, faculty and outside organizations, including the government, non-profit sector partners, and research groups.
- Works with staff and Centre leadership to assess (and reassess) CCJ communications needs.
- Works within Arts Communications guidelines to develop, write, and edit a wide range of communication materials for CCJ including newsletters
