**Job Purpose**:

- Youth Workers provide direct care, guidance, mentorship, and support to residents who reside in a group living setting. We work hand in hand with Children Services and our CSD (Collaborative Serviced Delivery) partnership programs to find permanent placements/options that best match each individual child or youth needs. We are _**_STRONG_**_ advocates who never settle for anything less than the best for the children and youth in our care. Our core foundation is built on principles as taught in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE Model training._

**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Maintain a supportive comfortable atmosphere and encourage residents in their individuality, while complying with agency policies and procedures and best practices.
- Attend and participate in shift exchange/ security and safety checks
- Provide individualized care and support for residents ages 2-22.
- Transport and provide support for residents to attend their day programs, appointments, and recreational activities
- Supervise residents in daily routines, in accordance with assigned shift
- Utilize **Therapeutic Crisis Intervention** (TCI) strategies and **CARE Model** principles to manage and prevent crisis.
- As required, work and provide staffing support at any GLP (GROUP LIVING PROGRAM) site.
- Evaluate resident’s behavior through daily contact and monthly goal progress notes
- Ensure log books, reports and documentation is completed timely
- Attend staff meetings and any other meetings or training programs as directed by management.
- Follow all Agency’s policies, and procedures, code of conduct, shift expectations, and job descriptions
- Communicate with management any concerns impacting a resident’s safety and well-being.
- Administer medications to residents as required.
- Assist with intake & welcoming the resident into GLP.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment by performing various cleaning and housekeeping duties as required.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies, food, and personal hygiene products, and weekly shopping lists.
- Perform related duties as outlined in the job description

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**

***Diploma or Degree in a related field. A combination of related education and experience will also be considered.

**Minimum** 1-year direct experience working in a group home with children or youth.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
- Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever-changing environment and understands the importance of boundaries and resiliency.
- Knowledge of standard policies and practices related to group care and the ability to effectively implement daily operations as per shift requirements.
- Formal training in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), Suicide Intervention/Self Harm, Indigenous Awareness, Cultural Diversity, Medication Administration, Trauma Informed, and Standard First Aid and Level C- CPR **Note: the agency does provide for all training if needed. Exception**:Agency does not provide/reimburse costs for** initial** First Aid training
- Flexible and adaptable to change.
- Demonstrated conflict management skills.
- **Driver Preferred-** Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and be able to provide a clear drivers abstract (3 years history).
- Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check and Intervention Record check
