Position Summary

Reporting to Dr. Patricia Schulte, the successful applicant will examine the genomic basis of thermal adaptation in fishes using a combination of thermal physiology, whole-genome sequencing, transcriptomics, and genome-wide association studies. The successful applicant will work closely with an active research group focused on various aspects of adaptation to environmental stressors in fishes.

Required qualifications:
- A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., evolutionary physiology, fish genomics); prior postdoctoral experience preferred.- Experience in analyzing one or more of the following data types in fishes: whole-genome sequencing, transcriptomics and/or epigenomics- Strong laboratory skills in molecular biology (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, with experience in more advanced molecular techniques highly desirable)- Strong bioinformatic skills, with an emphasis on the analysis of large genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets in R- Prior experience of fish husbandry and assessment of responses to environmental stressors- Evidence of excellent scientific writing including a strong record of publishing high quality work in relevant journals- Demonstrated ability to deliver presentations and present information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences- Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment

**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities of the position may include any combination of the following:
- Plan, troubleshoot, and execute experiments relating to the assessment of thermal tolerance in fishes and the genomic basis of variation in this trait- Assistance with fish husbandry- Molecular biology laboratory studies- Analysis of large bioinformatic datasets- Writing papers relating to their work- Assisting other lab members with their experiments- Helping to train new and existing lab members- Working with other lab members to plan experiments and to help in the bioinformatic analysis of large datasets- Working as part of a team to complete complex experiments- Interacting with external partners and collaborators- Other duties as required

The incumbent will receive supervision by the Principal investigator, Dr. Patricia Schulte

Supervision given

The incumbent may be required to supervise trainees involved in the research program.
