Victoria, Canada Action Committee of People with Disabilities Full time

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Clients may also seek information about such issues as obtaining legislated welfare rights, residential tenancy, human rights, family maintenance and enforcement, and child protection.

As Lead Advocate you will be working one-on-one with people with disabilities and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Advocacy program.

Specific duties will include:

- supervising and training the ACPD Advocate staff and volunteers;
- updating and maintaining the Advocacy Manual and other related materials;
- working with individuals seeking disability pensions and assistance;
- reviewing current policies and procedures for potential upgrades and increased efficacy;
- working closely with advocates in implementing upgrades to procedures;
- preparing arguments for appeals to administrative tribunals;
- legal research for client-specific issues, in areas such as housing, community care, human rights, and other disability-related matters; and
- referring to appropriate educational resources and programs, such as internships and training programs.

The Lead Advocate will also collaborate with other members of ACPD to promote the organization’s mission of social inclusion and economic equity. And from time-to-time work with other agencies and service providers.

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED**
- have excellent planning**, **co-ordination and prioritization skills;
- be proficient in Microsoft Office, and comfortable working in a Windows environment;
- have previous supervisory experience;
- be a self-motivated and innovative worker, capable of rapid and high-quality turn-around on a high workload and multi-tasking;
- be compassionate and supportive of individuals of varying backgrounds with a strong sense of social responsibility;
- be keen to work with people with disabilities and be flexible in accommodating their disability-related needs for them to fully participate; and
- have solid interpersonal and diplomatic skills.

Because we are a small agency with limited resources, the successful applicant will show flexibility and interest in a variety of tasks.

**Notations**:

- A satisfactory criminal history check will be required.
- As with all ACPD positions, this position is dependent upon continuing funding.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 22 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
