The Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre(PLEC) offers education and employment support for youth ages 16-24. PLEC provides the opportunity to engage in exploration of education and career development through individualized support, readiness programs, supporting the ability to access education funding, work placements and wage subsidies.

**Job Summary**: The **Learning and Engagement Specialist** works as a member of the PLEC team to facilitate and coordinate intakes for all youth accessing services at PLEC. The Learning and Engagement Specialist will design and facilitate workshops focused on life skills and employability skills for youth. This position works collaboratively across the organization to communicate and create awareness with other Phoenix programs about PLEC services to further engage youth and support their education and employment goals through outreach and other program engagement.

**Compensation**:$45,000 - $47,000 annual salary (prorated for the term), comprehensive cost-shared group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP contribution, three weeks of annual vacation to start and 4 weeks after one year, (pro-rated for the term), generous sick leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house trainings, and professional development opportunities.

**Hours of work**: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility and occasional evening work.

**Reports to**:Manager, Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre (PLEC)

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure the program delivery is congruent with Phoenix’s mission, vision, and values.
- Work in accordance with Phoenix’s policies, procedures, and framework of practice.
- Support the day-to-day operations of PLEC, including contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Facilitate all intakes of youth to PLEC.
- Complete initial support meetings, data entry, and coordinating with other PLEC team members to identify the support best suited to the youth’s needs.
- Assist youth with career and/or education exploration, creating professional social media presence, job search and resume preparation, either one on one or in a small group setting.
- Foster a culture of learning with youth through innovative communication, supportive outreach, community building, and youth engagement and feedback.
- Design, and facilitate employability & life skills workshops for youth who have a variety of learning and employment needs.
- Work collaboratively with other Phoenix programs to offer effective youth-centered life skill and employability programming.
- Provide outreach support to other Phoenix programs and external partnerships through tours, community activities and advocacy.
- Assist PLEC programs through various communication methods such as promotional materials, presentations, and social media.
- Actively engage and participate in internal Phoenix committees, projects, and activities and required.
- Support the onboarding and training of new staff and volunteers.
- Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics, and files using LaMPSS and Phoenix database, ensuring youth confidentiality is protected.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and maintain position working relationships with youth.
- High level of understanding of youth development issues, particularly housing and mental health, as they relate to education and employment engagement.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and personal reflection towards an anti-oppressive approach to practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in supporting the administration tasks with youth intakes including inputting data, setting appointments.
