**Full-Time Fleet Safety Advisor (Transit)**

**Our Team**:
The Health and Safety team is part of the Wellbeing and Occupational Health and Safety division within the Human Resources and Citizen Services department. Our team is a valued, strategic partner providing services to the Region, enabling all levels of the organization to engage in occupational and fleet safety every day. **The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Fleet Safety Advisor administers the transit fleet safety program and vehicle and equipment operator training program. You will use strong leadership and communication skills to provide guidance, advice and assistance to transit management and staff. You will develop, implement, promote, and monitor safe transit work practices and programs. You will bring skills in relationship-building and conflict resolution with a passion to uphold a strong safety culture.
- You will act as a resource to transit staff and works with the Senior Fleet Safety Advisor to set fleet safety standards, and advise on legislation, compliance/ obligations.
- You will develop, recommend, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards.
- You will identify training needs for transit staff, designs/ customizes training programs, and coordinates/ conducts same. Hires consultants for specialized training.
- You will administer the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR) program for transit.
- You will conduct road evaluations of potential hires and current operators, recommends/ implements remedial training/ action.
- You will conduct operator evaluations, training, and job function analysis to assist in the return-to-work process.
- You will administer the corporate vehicle inspection program and assist in the selection, testing, repair, and maintenance of safety devices and personal protective equipment.
- You will collaborate with operating management to determine causes of vehicle damage and maintain statistics and recommend ways to reduce risks.
- You will participate in resolving labour relations issues and acts as a resource to health and safety committees to resolve fleet related concerns, work refusals, and potential work stoppages.
- You will participate in long-range planning, priority setting, and budgeting.
- You will assign and monitor the work of an administrative assistant and oversee the work of training consultants.
- You will liaise with Ministries, enforcement agencies, fleet safety professionals, consultants, and safe workplace associations to exchange information, collaborate, identify best practices, and represent the Region’s interests.
- Knowledge of fleet safety functions, normally acquired through a Grade 12 education and progressively responsible related experience in the fleet safety field.
- Must have Signing Authority Certification from an MTO recognized organization. Must have a Defensive Driving Certificate and Vehicle Collision Investigation Certificate.
- Must possess a valid class BZ driver’s licence and satisfactory driving record to operate regional vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, collective agreements and labour relations principles, legislation, codes, standards, and practices relating to fleet safety, vehicle safety, equipment operation, commercial motor vehicles, and detection and corrective techniques associated with unsafe conditions.
- Knowledge, skill, and experience recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards specific to the work environment.
- Ability to research, analyse, and interpret legislation, standards, practices, scientific studies, and other technical documents.
- Human relations, facilitation, negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, persuasion, coaching, and presentation skills to
