Your Toronto Zoo makes animal well-being a priority in all operations and shows respect for all wildlife.

**Basic Function**:The Conservation Science Booklet promotes public awareness of conservation, education, and research at the Toronto Zoo; and the Zoo’s commitment to natural habitat protection, restoration, and the environment shared between people and wildlife. The Conservation Science Booklet outlines the various programs active at Toronto Zoo for the preservation of endangered species, conservation of habitats, and education and research programs. It reflects important information about the operation of the Zoo, including the people, the animals, donors and details on the financial health of our organization. It is distributed to the general public and used as an educational tool at all levels, from primary to university and graduate levels. The publication is used for general information and to promote conservation awareness at presentations, lectures, seminars, workshops, etc., in the community, nationally and internationally.

**Responsibilities**:

- Review previous year’s publication.
- Review surveys completed by staff that provide updates to projects/programs from last year, as well as new activities.
- Develop a flat plan for publication and assign word counts.
- Create and prepare layout and design concept for the publication.
- Liaise and consult with staff throughout the Zoo site i.e. Conservation Science (six pillars: Veterinary Science, Welfare Science, Reproductive Sciences, Nutrition Science, Species Recovery, Research & Compliance), and researchers.
- Determine key programs/initiatives to highlight.
- Capture photographs of animals/staff/activities.
- Create design elements to incorporate into the creative design to make the publication attractive.
- Proofread and edit draft publication.

**Qualifications**:

- Enrolled in or a graduate science program, zoology, biology, or environmental studies program of study.
- Excellent English, written and verbal skills.
- Creativity skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Excellent proofreading/editing skills.
- High proficiency in computer skills: Adobe InDesign (*mandatory) and Adobe Photoshop, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office - Word.
