**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and External Relations (SIER), the Government Relations Manager will lead the government relations functions of the College and be responsible to develop, manage and implement comprehensive government relations strategies. The Manager will proactively develop mutually beneficial working relationships with government and other stakeholders to advance the strategic goals of the College. The Manager will collaboratively work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the activities and messaging are consistent and integrated by developing government and stakeholder relations short and long-term strategies that advance College’s strategic objectives and reputation/awareness with government and other stakeholders.

**Responsibilities**
- Monitor, track, and report on all of the College’s lobbying activities to ensure compliance with Ontario’s Lobbyist Registration Act and the federal Lobbying Act.
- Develop and implement internal procedures and protocol to report on new and ongoing lobbying activities.
- Consolidate and capture all initiatives/activities from across the College to inform strategic advocacy plans on behalf of the institution that includes identification of targeted outreach strategies and success metrics.
- Act as primary liaison for government officials on campus on behalf of the College.
- Establish and implement government relations activities to develop and maintain positive relationships on behalf of the College with key stakeholders, including local MPs, MPPs, and Councillors who represent the ridings of each campus.
- Provide training/support/advice to internal stakeholders at all levels who may be interacting or meeting with government officials to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging as well as to inform the meeting strategy including approach with particular representatives.
- Plan and implement events and other activities to support the College’s government relations goals, such as roundtables, announcements, campus visits, and meetings.
- Draft and coordinate the approval of correspondence, briefing notes, presentations and formal policy submissions to elected and non-elected government officials.
- Conduct risk assessments for any government relations activity and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure the maintenance of the College’s reputation and to maximize lobbying efforts.
- Facilitate meetings and working groups to formulate consistent messaging on College priorities and initiatives for which government support is needed as well as to provide updates to lobbying requirements, changes to government policy impacting the College, etc.
- Work closely with SIER’s Communications & Marketing Strategist in developing written materials for internal and external use; including but not limited to, position statements, value propositions to support College’s strategic objectives, talking points, legislative summaries, factsheets, reports, and letters.
- Advise and support advocacy activities of the College by developing project-specific government relations strategies.
- Work closely with the Research Analyst to monitor and research political landscape and agendas of the government and officials to identify challenges and opportunities that will inform the effective implementation of the government relations strategy.
- Develop and maintain a government relations database containing all current and relevant contacts.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Minimum four-year degree in political science, public policy, public relations or a related discipline; Master’s Degree in the respective discipline(s) preferred
