**About Us**:
The Nova Scotia Courts consists of the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court (General and Family Divisions), and the Provincial Court each led by a Chief Justice or Chief Judge and Associate Chiefs. The Judiciary provides impartial adjudication of disputes between individuals, between the state and the individual, and between different levels of government within the state.

The Executive Office of the Nova Scotia Judiciary, which the Publication Manager is a part of, is an independent body that provides planning, policy and communications support for the Council of Nova Scotia Chiefs and the almost 100 Judges of the Nova Scotia Courts. The Executive Office staff members represent the Judiciary when working with other justice system organizations across the province and Canada on initiatives aimed at improving access to and the administration of justice.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As Publication Manager, you develop and manage the Nova Scotia Judiciary's decision dissemination and publication program, in accordance with the laws of privacy, legal publication standards, as well as electronic systems. The objective is to fulfil the goals of promoting access to justice and public legal education through a broad dissemination and convenient access to these decisions, while also protecting the privacy of those involved in court cases when — by law or court order — they need protection.

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Manage the Nova Scotia Judiciary’s decision dissemination and publication program for all levels of court.
- Develop decision management and dissemination policies and procedures.
- Provide support for the Courts’ Decision Publication Committee and the Supreme Court Rules Committee.
- Research publication issues of interest, as directed by the Chief Justices and Judges.
- Develop and implement publication training programs for the Judiciary.
- Develop decision publication training resources for Judicial Assistants and support the implementation of training by the Department of Justice - Court Services Division.
- Promote the open courts principle, balanced with the relevant laws of privacy and statutory and common law publication bans and related provisions.
- Train and supervise Law Clerks to ensure support during the Publication Manager’s vacation/occasional absences.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues at in the Executive Office of the Judiciary on projects or initiatives.
- Complete other assigned duties, as directed by the Chiefs Justices and Judges.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
To be considered for this opportunity, you hold a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as a Bachelor of Law. In addition, your work experiences have provided you with a solid understanding of the role of the Judiciary and the legal principles which impact the preparation and publication of court decisions. You are sufficiently versed in publication law to confidently recommend redactions and other changes to judges. You also hold experience in the management of information databases. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You are a self-starter with a keen attention to detail and you understand the importance of respecting confidentiality as you manage sensitive files. In addition, you collaborate effectively and build trusted relationships with various stakeholders to achieve goals and objectives. You also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The ability to enlist the involvement of team members in problem solving is critical to this role. Furthermore, you have a focus on continuous improvement, while remaining in compliance with privacy and other laws. You stay abreast of new developments in privacy and publication law and seek opportunities for continuous learning. Your excellent organization skills allow you to meet tight deadlines and achieve objectives.

The following would be definite assets:

- A Bachelor of Law and/or Juris Doctorate.
- Experience in the development and delivery of training programs

Leadership competencies required at this level of work (EC 10) are: Analytical Thinking, Action Management, Team Leadership, Initiative, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
