**Project Manager II - Polar Icebreaker Program**:
The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for supporting the Senior Program Director, Polar Icebreaker in management and oversight of the Polar Icebreaker program.

Primary responsibilities include acting as liaison with the external Government customer and coordinating Seaspan Shipyards and external resources in support of meeting specific program cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals.

**What you'll do**
- Maintains strong and effective relationships with the Client and strategic suppliers.
- Acts as the primary interface with the Government of Canada customer to manage all issues related to the project management scope of the Polar construction engineering contract, including: liaising on progress updates, financial & risk reporting and communicating & negotiating change processes where necessary.
- Interacts with the Customer to follow-up on deliverables/submissions and seek clarifications to resolve Customer issues, expediting actions as and where required.
- Provides project management support in the coordination and execution of assigned activities and deliverables. Works closely with cross-discipline shipyard teams including, but not limited to, estimating, commercial, planning and project controls, engineering, supply chain and operations to ensure the Project is successful.
- Develops or assists in the generation of management plans, proposals, business cases, estimates, risk mitigation actions, plans and schedules.
- Controls and monitors the work; collating variance analysis and key performance metrics to measure project performance.
- Participates in contract change reviews and oversees assurance of contract compliance on behalf of the PMO, highlighting and resolving issues as they arise.
- Produces management reports and presentations that highlight Project status against established goals and plans.
- Attends regular review meetings, and presents a summary of risks and opportunities to Project partners, including members of the senior management team and the Client (as appropriate).
- Works with shipyard departments, suppliers, contractors and the Client in resolving outstanding issues.
- Tracks actions and commitments identified during Project meetings. Establishes ambitious but achievable timeframes and works closely with action owners to complete open commitments.
- Direct management responsibility of staff assigned to support program delivery.
- Other duties as assigned.

**What you'll bring**
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is desired. Diplomas may be accepted with sufficient employment experience.
- A minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in heavy industry such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility.
- Certified project management qualification a distinct advantage (e.g. PMP).
- Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated projects, bids or proposals. Solid ability to meet or exceed commitments in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience leading people and significant budgets.
- Experienced with Earned Value Management.
- Detailed understanding of project management techniques and methods.
- Good judgment and prioritization abilities.
- Effective, efficient communication skills.
- A strong business sense.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to strategize and see the bigger picture, whilst focusing on the details.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to empower and empathize with team members.
- Ability to influence others and manage expectations.
- Familiarity with Government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.
- Effectively manages conflict.
- Excellent computer skills including Word/Excel/Powerpoint.
