**Role Summary**:
The Saw Operator will independently operate all equipment within the saw department to cut steel. The position will also plan and prioritize the cutting of steel and monitor and maintain steel inventory levels. He/she will conduct general maintenance on equipment within the department and provide instruction to junior team members. Quoting saw cut hours for internal and external customers is also a required function of this position.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Use of GSS to track hours relating to stock list components and daily work activities
- Use Saw Cutting Stock List to mark off items cut and save information needed using drop boxes
- Locate work orders and mould components that need to be cut
- Operate and maintain all equipment in the saw department including the operation of all three Kasto saws simultaneously
- Understand and demonstrate safe operation of magnets
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of materials used and maintain proper stock levels based on workload
- Support Shipping/Receiving by loading/unloading trucks as needed, putting away inventory, tracking inventory, strapping completed jobs onto skids, etc.
- Perform hardness tests on all major blocks as per work instruction
- Operate and maintain the Blanchard grinder
- Document, investigate and trial new types and brands of blades to determine quality, performance and cost effectiveness
- Travel for investigational and training purposes
- Train others on saw department processes
- Participate in standardized work processes and 5S initiatives
- Prepared to work on various shifts independently; Customer demands may require additional hours of work
- Participate in and support Continuous Improvement and WCM initiatives
**Key Qualifications/Requirements**:
**Education**:
- Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent
**Experience**:
- Documented Saw Operation/Cutting experience, preferable with medium to large sized steel blocks
- Previous tool shop experience, preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment
**Skills**:
- Able to obtain overhead crane and forklift licenses
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS) and Outlook
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Accurate measuring abilities in both Metric and Imperial (including measurement calculations)
- Bending, lifting, clamping on a continuous basis
- Able to lift steel blocks/bars (maximum 30 lbs) consistently and on a daily basis
**Competencies**:
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with very little supervision
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
