**Position Overview**

**Student and Enrolment Services** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Advisor**.

Reporting to the Manager, Student Conduct Office the Advisor, Student Conduct and Conflict Management is responsible for working with students, faculty and staff to facilitate resolution to issues related to non-academic misconduct and conflict. In this position, the Advisor will effectively manage highly confidential, complex and sensitive material.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- The Advisor will have demonstrated expertise in procedural fairness and natural justice, student development theory and connecting student learning with corrective outcomes
- The Advisor will be expected to provide expert advice and consultation to senior members of the university community (both faculty and staff) in resolving non-academic student conduct concerns.
- The Advisor will respond to allegations of student non-academic misconduct, including investigation of allegations and service as an administrative hearing officer, decision maker and case manager to formal complaints that are submitted through the relevant policies
- The Advisor will use discretion and expertise in determining if complaints should proceed to formal investigation and hearing, or if alternative process (including informal measures, restorative conference or referral) should be pursued
- In highly complex cases, the Advisor will work closely with the Manager, Student Conduct Office and may consult with the Student-at-Risk Team or other staff responsible for responding to and supporting students through incidents of misconduct
- The Advisor will interview and maintain a roster of qualified external investigators and will develop Terms of Reference and manage communications with the investigator for any Complaint proceeding to external investigation
- The Advisor may be called as a Respondent to any appeals that proceed through the University Appeals Committee or University Appeals Tribunal. They will be required to have excellent written communication skills, attention to detail, and conduct their work in compliance with established policies and processes.
- The Advisor will serve as a resource to students and staff with questions about process and policy related to the student non-academic misconduct policy and related institutional policies, including the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy and Harassment Policies.
- The Advisor will develop strong partnerships and regularly liaise with key stakeholders, including Campus Security, Legal Services, Student Wellness Services, the Student at Risk Team, the Sexual Violence Support Advocate, the Student Ombuds, the Students Union and the Graduate Student Association, the Protected Disclosure and Research Integrity Office, and Human Resources
- The Advisor will recruit and train students, faculty and staff on an annual basis to serve as Hearing Officers and/or Hearing Board members to adjudicate the most serious alleged violations of policy. The Advisor will develop and implement a comprehensive training program for Hearing Officers and Board members and will ensure all members have received up-to-date training prior to adjudicating a case. The Advisor may serve as investigator or administrator to Hearing Officers or the Hearing Board, and will assist in drafting decision letters as required.
- The Advisor will be responsible for drafting the Student Non-Academic Misconduct Policy annual report, in addition to other annual reporting requirements
- The Advisor (in collaboration with other staff in the Student Conduct Office) is responsible for maintaining and compiling accurate data regarding student conduct administration and processes for the purposes of these reports
- The Advisor will develop and deliver workshops and customized content to build conflict management capacity among students. The Advisor may recommend and deliver specific conflict management training to affiliated groups (labs, clubs, organizations) to facilitate a healthy learning and work environment
- The Advisor will oversee a Conflict Management digital badge for students, including regular review of program curriculum, student evaluations, learning outcomes and program goals The Advisor will oversee the Upstanders program for students, including regular review of program curriculum, student evaluations, learning outcomes and program goals

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- An undergraduate degree is required, a Master's degree in a relevant field (education, social work, policy, conflict management, law) is preferred
- Minimum of three years of progressive and increasingly complex professional experience working in the field of student conduct management,, student affairs, case management, policy adjudication, or discipline in a post-secondary education setting (or related environment), including supervisory and/or mentoring experience
