**The Opportunity**

MFRC is seeking a passionate change maker to lead the implementation of an innovative youth public policy and advocacy training program and contribute to the broad advocacy and public policy strategic aims of MFRC and our partners. Reporting to the Youth Manager, you will lead the implementation of the Malvern Youth Advocacy and Action Program (MYAAP) from inception, working alongside passionate youth change-makers in the area of education and housing policy. You will also work directly with MFRC leadership to elevate the voices of Malvern and Scarborough community members to advocate for system and policy change to promote equity.

**Public Policy and Advocacy Specialist Responsibilities**
- Work closely with MYAAP stakeholders including local youth, the Maytree Foundation, academic institutions, MFRC staff and government and community stakeholders to finalize program design, curriculum and overall plan
- Implement the MYAAP, an innovative program that will support and train youth with lived experiences in the education and/or housing systems to become advocates that support change and improvements within these systems
- Support MYAAP evaluation and learning exercises and feed learning into program improvements
- Work closely with MFRC’s Youth Manager and other MFRC leaders to expand and further advocacy and public policy strategic aims of MFRC and our partners
- Engage and support in additional areas of youth programming including life skills development, recreation programming, leadership and mental health and wellness
- Capture program impact and statistics using MFRC’s program data system
- Work directly with the Youth Manager to draft, finalize and submit external reports
- Engage directly with Malvern youth and external stakeholders to keep up-to-date on community development trends and current events that impact local community members

**Qualifications, Skills, and Personal Characteristics**
- An understanding of Toronto and Ontario government processes and experience working collaboratively to develop public policy positioning
- Experience implementing advocacy initiatives that promote dialogue, build relationships, and enables local activation
- Experience working with youth who have lived experience in the housing and education systems
- Experience and eagerness to co-create advocacy and public policy programming with and for youth
- Knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the complexity of issues arising for youth who have experienced abuse, violence, intergenerational trauma and poverty
- Knowledge of a broad range of community resources in the Malvern and Scarborough area
- Knowledge of the impact of social and cultural issues facing marginalized youth
- Experience in facilitating individual and group mentorship and coaching sessions with a trauma focused lens
- This role will have substantial evening and weekend work required
- Valid Driver’s License with access to a car, an asset
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams
- Passion for community development, a commitment to social justice and to supporting FRC in becoming an anti-racist organization

**Compensation: $45,000 to $57,000 + 100% paid benefits, paid sick/wellness days, three weeks’ vacation, and other paid time off**
