**CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW**:
A relevant undergraduate university degree in Accounting or related field
Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required
Minimum of five (5) years in a management role within the education sector
Comprehensive understanding of Ministry funding, reporting, school board budgets and operations
Experience with multi-year financial planning within the education sector
Familiarity with effective School Board fiscal management strategies and analyzing relevant metrics
Familiarity with education sector collective agreements and provisions
Experience preparing and presenting complex/confidential reports
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and manage competing priorities
Advanced user of office software packages, including Microsoft Office
Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to build working relationships with senior management and elected officials
Proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders within the public sector
Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Familiarity with public education programs, policies and procedures
Working knowledge of the Education Act, Regulations and Legislation
**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer (CFO), this position will take the lead in assessing and managing the Board’s overall financial risk by developing, implementing and maintaining a sustainable multi-year budget framework that aligns with the Board’s Strategic Plan and Ministry of Education requirements. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Financial Risk/Planning
Assess and monitor the Board’s financial risk profile and recommend solutions aligned with the Board’s multi-year budget framework
Lead the continuous review of expenditure, programs and infrastructure
Validate/affirm/align expenditure with Board and Ministry priorities
Provide direction and oversight with respect to system staffing parameters
Participate in the annual budget deliberations and staffing processes
Identify and oversee the implementation of financial efficiency measures
Resource internal/external engagement processes and consultations
Present findings/recommendations to senior management and Trustees
Management Functions
Participate in the development/preparation of departmental action plans, learning plans, policies, procedures, and Board/Committee reports
Maintain knowledge of Board policies, relevant legislation and regulations
Develop and implement tools and methods for the continual improvement and efficacy of practices and processes within the Board/department
Provide recommendations/solutions to aid in the resolution of matters which may be political, sensitive and confidential in nature
Supervise assigned departments within the Financial Services portfolio
Relationship Management
Build and foster strong working relationships with internal/external stakeholders to facilitate coordination of system/departmental priorities
