Winnipeg, Canada Canadian Centre for Child Protection Full time

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) is a national charity dedicated to the personal safety and protection of children. Our goal is to reduce the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, to assist in the location of missing children, and to prevent child victimization.

C3P operates Cybertip.ca — Canada’s tipline for reporting child sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet — as well as other prevention and intervention programs and initiatives.

**About This Position**

Looking for a job that makes a positive impact for children worldwide? **The Canadian Centre for Child Protection** is a national charitable organization dedicated to the personal safety of all children. We own and operate Canada's national tipline to report the online sexual exploitation of children — **Cybertip.ca** — and are currently looking for a responsible, dedicated individual to join our team as a full time **Associate Legal Counsel**.

Consisting of five full-time lawyers, the legal team is a key contributor to the organization’s advocacy and policy initiatives, while also advising on legal compliance, risk management, contractual matters, and a range of other legal issues that arise in an in-house environment. The work is intellectually stimulating, rewarding and constantly evolving as C3P lawyers must stay current with emerging technology-related legal developments. Working for the C3P legal department, you will be exposed to wide-ranging legal topics beyond corporate-commercial, such as criminal law, civil litigation (Canada and US), and international treaties.

In addition, the team leads several exciting legal initiatives including regular legal monitoring and updates on online child sexual exploitation case law and the submission of community impact statements on C3P’s behalf and on behalf of survivors. In 2016, the team pioneered a system for submitting victim impact statements on behalf of survivors of child sexual abuse material when their images are found in the possession of an offender in Canada. This highly successful initiative has helped all actors in the legal system to better understand the significant harm that flows from child sexual abuse material.

Duties include:

- Providing timely, dedicated legal support for all of C3P’s departments and programs
- Providing input from a legal perspective on a wide range of policy and other issues tied to the online safety of children
- Drafting, researching, and reviewing written legal education and advocacy pieces, including reports and submissions for all levels of government, and international bodies
- Drafting, negotiating and maintaining a variety of contracts with businesses and organizations in Canada and around the world who are interested in better protecting children on their services
- Supporting and advising management on corporate governance, including working with other legal team members on the preparation and maintenance of corporate documents, filings and registrations
- Providing guidance on intellectual property matters, including IP license agreements, and coordinating trademark filings with external counsel
- Contributing to C3P’s case law database and engagement with interested parties such as Crown attorneys, parole and probation officers, and those working in child and animal protection

**Requirements include**:

- Bachelor of Laws/Juris Doctor degree (or comparable equivalent if educated outside Canada)
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba and eligible to practice law in the Province of Manitoba without restrictions
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience - prior experience in a large law firm or in-house environment is an asset
- Excellent research, drafting, and writing skills - prior experience in legal research is an asset
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and methodology (analytical) skills
- Excellent negotiation and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and legal information in plain language to employees at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
- Ability to take direction and incorporate feedback, as well as work independently and take the initiative to mitigate risk and problem solve as needed
- Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as a member of both the legal team and multidisciplinary teams involving staff in other C3P departments
- French/English bilingualism is an asset

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is committed to providing safe environments for children and adheres to strict child safeguarding principles. **All applicants will be thoroughly screened using background checks, including Criminal Record Checks and an extensive review process.**

Requests for reasonable accommodation can be made throughout the recruitment and selection process. (e.g., related to any materials or activities). If you require reasonable accommodation at any time during the recruitment and selection proces
