**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Academic Operations and Field Education, the role provides placement support for students in the School of Social and Community Services who are required to complete field work education as part of their Work Integrated Learning program requirements.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Forecasts the number of students in the School of Social and Community Services programs, who will participate in placement.
- Supports the students in placement advising and placement preparation individually, in groups, and through classroom instruction to ease the transition from college to the field placement.
- Offers individual assessment of resumes, cover letters, mock interviews and as needed, delivers workshops in resume, cover letter, labour market research.
- Utilizes Orbis / Outcome platform to communicate with students; post placement opportunities; update employer’s profiles; match students with opportunities; administer placement documentation.
- Communicates with the Chair, Manager and Program Coordinators to report on student’s placement tracking, escalate student/employment issues to field faculty, Program Coordinator, Chair and Manager, as required.
- Prepares reports and participates in Program Advisory Committees, upon request.
- Acts as the initial and primary contact for new employers; generates new placement opportunities; maintains the existing employer base; markets all Programs in the School of Social and Community Services.
- Determines suitability for field placement positions based on program outcomes and ensures that they meet the program guidelines.
- Conducts on-site visits to solicit feedback from the employers about student placements to ensure that the students’ learning outcomes are met.
- Updates annually and makes changes as needed in the Field Education Manuals ensuring accuracy of information and updates with the most current policies and procedures.
- Performs ongoing administration and field placement process improvement with the Manager.
- Coordinates and reports the placement incident reports between students, faculty, employers and GBC Health and Safety Liaison based on GBC policies.
- Follows up with placement employer and conduct site visits as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Educational and Experience Requirements**:

- Three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Sciences including Social and Community Services, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, etc. is required.
- A Certificate or Diploma in Career Counseling is considered a strong asset.
- Member, in good standing, with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) for Field Placement Coordinator with social work portfolio.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience working independently and with a team supporting students/clients in providing career advising, coaching and experiential learning preferably in a post-secondary environment. With experience in developing partnerships in the community service sector.
- Extensive knowledge in using Microsoft Office, online platforms, and databases.
- Demonstrable knowledge of community services organizations, skills, and labour market trends.
- Demonstrated experience in understanding disability accommodation, designing and facilitating engaging workshops and presentations for adult learners.

**Skills and Attributes**:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, field placement partners, faculty, and other parties.
- Proven proficiency with providing excellent service to clients, students, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a large case load while balancing other duties with non-negotiable deadlines and conflicting priorities; high level of attention to detail.
- Must have excellent presentation skills and persuasion skills to succeed in securing placements for students in a very competitive environment. Proven skills with developing and delivering group presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; proven mediation and negotiation skills to settle conflicts with students in the workplace; ability to problem solve issues before they escalate.
- Strong abilities with computer software programs and adaptability to new systems and programs.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize events and oversee the coordination of faculty and field related special events.
