We are seeking a Director of Community and Indigenous Engagement. If you have 15+ years experience helping significant organizations navigate mutually beneficial relationships and outcomes with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, this role might be ideal for you.

The Director of Community and Indigenous Engagement (CIE) will lead Enbridge's engagement efforts with communities and Indigenous Nations across Canada. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with over 300 Indigenous Nations and governments, ensuring that business objectives are harmoniously aligned with community interests.

The Director will be a champion for reconciliation efforts with Indigenous peoples within the company. Responsibilities include managing the implementation of Enbridge’s Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan, setting engagement standards, and offering strategic advice on Indigenous reconciliation and engagement to senior leadership.

**What You Will Do**:

- Lead a team of professionals and consultants to build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with communities and stakeholders across Canada where Enbridge operates and maintains assets. These relationships help to align the interests and business objectives of Enbridge and these communities - and achieve sustainable business success
- Work with managers and other team members reporting into this position in the development of regional engagement plans to align the work of the team with the strategies, objectives and goals of Enbridge business units as they seeking permits and regulatory and community support for operations, innovations and projects.
- Assist with relationship agreements and equity frameworks between the company and Indigenous communities, support for Enbridge projects and operational activities, and helping Enbridge meet its regulatory and business obligations and achieve its business goals while incorporating Indigenous interests and perspectives
- Champion Indigenous reconciliation in the company, supporting the implementation of the Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan (IRAP), which includes fulfillment of commitments, the work of the Indigenous Advisory Group (made up of external Indigenous leaders) and encouraging Indigenous cultural awareness
- Support the economic inclusion of Indigenous Nations, by helping business units in the development of Indigenous equity partnerships; by working with the Indigenous Supply Chain Management team and the business units to improve labour and contracting opportunities; and by assisting with Enbridge’s Indigenous Employment Program, by addressing hiring barriers and sustaining a welcoming culture for Indigenous colleagues such that we can reflect 3.5% Indigenous representation in our Canadian workforce
- Support the maintenance of company policies impacting its relationship with Indigenous communities - including its Indigenous Peoples Policy, its lifecycle engagement framework, and its reconciliation efforts
- Continually assess the evolving landscape of Indigenous rights and interests to understand and anticipate issues and opportunities to share strategic advice with leadership and devise strategy and tactical responses
- Work with External Affairs, Communications, and other Enbridge colleagues to effectively educate policymakers and their staffs on Indigenous issues relevant to Enbridge. Represent Enbridge before media, governments, regulators, and public forums to clearly articulate the company’s position relative to Indigenous matters

**Who You Are**:

- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university and 15+ years of relatable experience in Indigenous or stakeholder engagement; work in highly-regulated, infrastructure-based industries a plus
- Familiarity with Indigenous history and culture, and lived experience is an asset
- Familiarity with applicable government and regulatory requirements, as well as the present-day Indigenous landscape of issues, opportunities and community dynamics is helpful
- Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions

**Working Conditions**:
Office environment with frequent travel (approximately 50%) into communities within Canada and other locations within North America.

Works with highly confidential, strategic information.

Leads a decentralized team and operation.

Attend after-hours community and Indigenous events throughout the year.
