The position manages the operations of sheriff services to the court and provides for the safety and security of the court, court officials, users, the public and persons in custody. This senior management position has significant scope and decision-making responsibility in threat assessment and risk management relating to the operations of the court and for the security of the court, the facilities and individuals and is required to exercise immediate judgment in potentially critical situations to mitigate risk and effect safety and security.

The Superintendent is responsible for independently directing sheriff services in multiple sites, resource allocation and deployment of resources to meet court volume and security needs, budgetary control, and supervision of Sheriffs staff. The position manages human resources issues and is step 1 of the grievance process. Each Superintendent is expected to make a corporate contribution as a member of the senior management team through providing support or review for other regions and providing operational guidance and oversight of province wide programs and actively participating at the municipal and provincial police level on matters related to integrated prisoner and escort management, keep of prisoners, communications, and emergency response planning.

**Job Requirements**:

- Completion of an undergraduate degree in a related discipline e.g., Criminology, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Psychology or Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented with related post secondary courses. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Five years of experience in the BC Sheriff Service or a related field (i.e., police, military, law enforcement, etc.)
- Minimum five years of management experience with planning, implementing, and monitoring program effectiveness, establishing priorities and managing human and fiscal resources.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the administration of the business practices/processes of a law enforcement organization related to policies, procedures, performance management, and project management.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

- Experience in labour relations and Collective Agreements
- Experience in a BC law enforcement organization that specializes in a public safety
- security mandate with law enforcement authorities including but not limited to the power of arrest.

Provisos:

- Must obtain a valid BC Class 4 (unrestricted) driver's licence within 3 months of hire.
- Must have previously completed or be able to successfully complete Sheriff Recruit Training including firearm and Force Response Options training within 5 months of hire or a modification thereof as deemed appropriate.
- Must complete background and security checks and achieve and maintain an enhanced security clearance.
- May be expected to obtain an appointment as Commissioner for taking affidavits.
- Must travel by various modes of transportation (vehicle, plane, boat, etc).
- Provincial travel will be required.
