**Library Assistant, Collection Services**:
**Primary Purpose**: To provide acquisitions and serials support within the Collections & Discovery division of the University Library.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Acquisitions supervisor, you work closely with others in a team environment. The work is of above average complexity involving a range of knowledge and understanding of the resources and functions related to the library. The work requires a high level of concentration and attention to detail. As the successful incumbent, you would work independently and exercise judgment within established guidelines, with guidance from the supervisor or collaboratively with other library assistants and librarians when necessary for more complex tasks and problems.

**Accountabilities**:

- Receive print materials (monographs and serials), including unpacking shipments, verifying titles against invoices, updating records in Sierra, serials check-in
- Support the acquisition of and access to print and online serials, including communication with vendors, claiming, preparing serials for bindery, checking/activating e-journals in link resolver, assisting with e-journal access troubleshooting, updating workflows, and updating records in Sierra
- Collect and manage e-resource usage statistics
- Collaborate with other employees to develop, document, and communicate processes and procedures
- Work collaboratively to meet operational needs, determine priorities, and timelines for completing work
- Coordinate and/or participate in projects, as required

**Qualifications**:
**Education**: Library Technician Diploma, or University undergraduate degree with demonstrated progressive experience working in a library.

**Experience**:

- Relevant library experience, including acquisition of materials and working with serials
- Demonstrated technological proficiency
- Demonstrated proficiency with the Acquisitions and Serials modules of an ILS

**Skills**:

- Ability to organize work, set priorities, balance competing demands, meet deadlines, work independently, use initiative, and effectively handle disruptions
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and the University Library’s integrated library system, Sierra
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology
- Ability to collaborate with others in a team environment
- Effective communication and customer service skills (consistently tactful, responsive, pleasant, exercises diplomacy and discretion)
- Ability to consider, encourage, and express creative and innovative ideas. Open to new ways of approaching processes, tasks, or problems
- Ability to lead change and engage and support others in the change process
- Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Takes initiative in learning about language and issues relating to equity and diversity
- Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated
