EPCOR Water Services (EWS) has an exciting opportunity for up to two (2) full-time temporary (duration of up to 11 months) Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operators to join the team working at our Gold Bar site in Edmonton, AB

As the WWTP Operator, you will be accountable for monitoring all ongoing operational aspects of plant and associated bio-solids management facility performance. This includes ensuring plant operations conform to operating standards and procedures and initiating control process adjustments in response to changing conditions.

What you’d be responsible for

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Wastewater Plant Operator I will be accountable for, but not limited, to:

- Overseeing process and equipment monitoring and control.
- Operating and inspecting various pieces of process equipment.
- Reviewing computerized operating and laboratory data.
- Operating digested sludge and decanted supernatant pipelines.
- Performing:

- routine and non-routine process configuration activities as required by Standard Operating Procedures, including lock-out/tag-out of process equipment and draining, de-pressurization and flushing of isolated equipment.
- virtual rounds by inspecting the plant process and equipment through the plant process control computer system.
- routine preventive maintenance activities as required by the Standard Operating Procedures.
- general lagoon operational duties.
- Participating in plant process cleaning activities.
- Conducting routine process control tests to optimize various processes throughout the plant.
- Supervising collection, preparation and delivery of wastewater, sludge and other related samples to the laboratory.
- Recording process information onto the daily operations log sheets electronic log book.
- Ensuring work permits and hazard assessments are completed and areas inspected before safe work can proceed.
- Housekeeping and other related duties as required.
- Providing direction and guidance to less experienced Operators.

What’s required to be successful

Qualifications, experience and behaviors you will possess are:

- Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
- NAIT Water & Wastewater Technician Certificate (or certification from an equivalent training program recognized by EPCOR.).
- Level 1 Alberta Environment Wastewater Treatment Operator certification.
- Experience working as an Operator at a large (such as Class 4) Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
- Power Engineering certification.
- Previous experience with Delta V and SCADA control systems.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License
- Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire.
- A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) will be required.
- Drivers with a GDL class will not be considered..
- Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit.

Grade/Class Code: 9200
- grade/class code will be determined based on the level of certification at the time of hire

Starting Wage: $39.70 per hour
- Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.

Hours of work: varies as this plant operates 24/7 - 365 days a year
- Shifts are 12 hours per day, with an average of 40 hours per week over the length of the schedule (i.e. rotating 12-hour shifts to provide 24-hour coverage, 7 days per week)
