**POSITION**: Child Support Worker
**LOCATION**: Maple Ridge, BC

The Child Support Worker role involves providing childcare and organizing
activities for children in the Transition House. To offer services to all
children who enter the Transition House and provide parenting support to their mothers. Responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating recreational
activities for children and youth, as well as providing emotional support and
feedback.

**KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively and compassionately with children, their mothers, and other professionals.
- Understanding of early childhood education principles and the developmental needs of children, especially those who have witnessed domestic violence.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and provide emotional support to children and families affected by domestic violence.
- Skills in planning, conducting, and encouraging participation in recreational and therapeutic activities for children and youth.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide parenting support and model effective parenting techniques.
- Knowledge of community services and resources available to families, and the ability to assist parents in accessing these services.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education, Training and Experience**:

- Certificate in Early Childhood Education or a Degree/Certificate in Childcare Counseling, plus one year of experience working with children who have experienced abuse; or alternatively, completion of several relevant undergraduate courses and five years of experience working with children who have experienced abuse.
- Specialized training in family violence from a recognized program.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
- Position requires Union Membership.

**Shift/Schedule/Hours per week**: 21 hours or more. Availability required on Tuesday evenings; start times may vary. Flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the transition house.
**Expected Start Date**: ASAP
**Wage/Salary**:starting at $25.95/hour
**Grid Level**: 10

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Monitors and ensures the safety and comfort of children and youth. Reports any issues to the Residential Manager and responds to emergencies following established guidelines.
- Plans, conducts, and encourages participation in programs and recreational activities, such as craft projects and games. Prepares and sets up equipment or materials for these activities as needed.
- Assesses each child and develops individual case plans.
- Provides emotional support and feedback to help children and youth cope with the effects of witnessing domestic violence.
- Offers parenting support to mothers and models effective parenting skills. Provides information and assistance in accessing community services and resources as needed.
- Accompanies and/or transports children or youth to activities.
- Maintains relevant records and statistics, and produces reports as required.
- Performs other related duties as necessary.
