**Purpose of Position**

**Scope**
The Major Gifts Officer is under the direct supervision of the President & CEO.

**Responsibilities**
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for creating, implementing, administering and evaluating a Major Gifts portfolio. The Major Gifts Officer will be largely focused on Major Gifts. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Responsible for inspiring donors to make philanthropic gifts that will advance health care and meet financial goals that have been established.
- Develop, implement and manage short and long-term fundraising strategies and programs in co-operation with the President & CEO to meet the financial goals as established by the Board of Directors of the Foundation.
- Develop, implement and evaluate appropriate strategies for cultivation and solicitation of individual and corporate donors.
- Work with the Development Assistant to manage the administrative activities of the

Major Gifts Program.
- Assist in the development and managing the annual budget for the Major Gifts

Program.
- Execute the Major Gifts component of Capital Campaigns (e.g. Our Hearts at Home).
- Required to attend community and internal functions.
- Require to sit on a number of internal and external committees.
- Responsible to maintain donor files.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
- The Major Gifts Officer will be an excellent communicator - both written and oral and an exceptional relationship builder with a demonstrated track record in closing significant gifts and demonstrated ability to drive and achieve financial targets.
- A strategic thinker and problem solver with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Leadership, initiative, tact and attention to detail are required traits.
- Ability to provide appropriate stewardship and cultivation to various constituencies including but not limited to donors, volunteers and community members.
- Able to handle multiple projects with competing timelines.
- Maintains a superior customer service focus in all interactions with Foundation constituencies including, but not limited to, donors, volunteers, board members, patients and Health Sciences Centre and Research Institute staff.
- The Major Gifts Officer is knowledgeable of appropriate legislation affecting charitable organizations.
- Ability to work comfortably in Microsoft Office and GroupWise are imperative. The ability to operate office equipment (i.e. copiers, computers, printers) is also required.
- The ability to use Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
- A G-class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
- Flexibility in work hours and locations is essential to the Major Gifts Officer’s success.

**Qualifications**:
The Major Gifts Officer will have completed post-secondary education &/or work experience, preferably in one of the following areas:

- Fundraising
- Sales
- Business
- Financial/Investment services
- Public Relations
- Communications
- Social Sciences (including Psychology and Sociology)

And/or have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in fund development, business development or sales equivalent.

**Other information**:

- Full-time Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience
- 1.0 FTE
- Work hours: 9AM-5PM, Monday through Friday. Some after-hours required on a monthly basis
