**Job Summary**:
We are looking for a skilled family worker interested in working with youth and their parents/caregivers to address conflict in the home, support all stakeholders in improving communication and coping skills as well as parenting skills. Families come from a wide range of backgrounds. Many families have experienced trauma and are facing complex issues, which can also include housing and food insecurity. In addition to working on skill building with the family, the family worker acts as an advocate and supports families in interactions with school, ministry etc., as well as connects families with other community supports. This position is in office and outreach based with the goal of building trust and relationships with parents and youth. Parents and youth are supported in setting and achieving goals that reduce conflict, build skills and improve relationships. **As this is a float position, the incumbent might also work in our other Youth Resource Centre youth programs.**

Youth Resource Centre : Archway Community Services

**Your Role**:

- Providing assessment, planning and supportive interventions for, and with clients of the Youth Resource Centre.
- Assisting clients in identifying, understanding, and overcoming personal/family problems, connecting or reconnecting to positive community and family networks, and in establishing and achieving realistic goals.
- Supporting parents in setting boundaries, self-care, communication skills and re-establishing or maintaining a healthy relationship with their youth.
- Educating parents on adolescent development, substance use, mental health issues, sexual exploitation, and other related topics as applicable.
- Providing mediation between youth and parents.
- Collaborating with other youth services in the community, including schools and the Ministry.

This position is a great fit for someone with excellent networking skills, knowledge of youth culture and current trends, and the ability to work with both male and female youth.

**Our Offer**
- Wage: $29.00 to $31.00 per hour.
- A full-time position, at 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, some evening work is required.
- Temporary position until March 31, 2025.

**Getting an Interview - you will be considered if you have**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in CYC, Social Work or a related field. **Or** a Diploma in a related field and significant experience.
- At least 1 year experience in direct program delivery in the community social service sector.
- At least 1 year experience providing services through a trauma informed and client-centred lens.
- Experience working with parents.
- Some experience working with youth and families.

**The Job Requires you to have**:

- Knowledge of youth culture and current trends.
- Relationship building skills; able to build rapport and work with youth with high risk behaviour.
- Strong knowledge of parenting strategies.
- Strong crisis management skills; able to work effectively during crisis.
- Good organization, time, and general management skills.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, substance use and mental health concerns.
- Strong knowledge of government and community-based programs and related provincial and community support systems.
- Use of your own vehicle.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
