**Mental Health Development Assistant**
- PURPOSE OF THE POSITION_
Reporting to the Matawa Education Executive Director of Education, Matawa Education and Care Centre (MECC) Principal, and Mental Health Coordinator, the Mental Health Development Assistant (MHDA) supports Mental Health Coordinator in overseeing the mental wellness program by providing direct support to hired staff, students, and partnership organizations. The MHDA supports the Mental Health Coordinator in the collections of program-specific qualitative and quantitative data. Gathering information is in conjunction with leads and compliant with client confidentiality.

They will support the Mental Health Coordinator and the relationship between the MECC and St. Joseph Care Group by ensuring the two organizations work coherently. The MHDA supports the efforts to improve the health and function of students struggling with mental health. The MHDA works collaboratively with various departments at MECC and outside community service providers. With the direction of the Mental Health Coordinator, the MHDA supports in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various projects.

Responsibilities/Duties
- Collect and analyze statistical data;
- Support in the design of data administrative policy;
- Collect program-specific qualitative and quantitative data;
- Provides administrative and clerical support for the MECC mental wellness program, including correspondence, data input, filing, assembling files, and other duties;
- Provide direct support to hired staff;
- Helps maintain reporting/tracking information as required by Matawa First Nations Management, funders and partnership organizations and service providers.
- Perform other related duties as required and identified by the Executive Director, Principal, and Mental Health Coordinator.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES_
- Knowledge_
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

- A 2-Year Ontario College Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline (preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum of 2 years) related to the position;
- Successful experience working in the mental wellness field or equivalent areas;
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nation education including issues, challenges, and delivery models;
- Maintaining absolute confidentiality regarding student records per the Privacy Act, Education Act and Matawa First Nations Management policies and procedures;
- Ability to speak Ojibwe, Cree or Oji-Cree is considered an asset;
- Skills
The incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in the following skill areas:_
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Effective communication, both written and oral;
- Organizational skills;
- Stress management;
- Comprehensive Written skills;
- Interpersonal and Conflict resolution skills;
- A valid Ontario driver’s license;
Personal Attributes
The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of the MHDA. The incumbent must also demonstrate the following personal attributes:

- Organized and able to multi-task;
- Punctual with excellent time management skills;
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety for different backgrounds (including but not limited to students, the general public, school staff, education staff and management, community organizations, government agencies, and other parties).
- WORKING CONDITIONS_

Physical Demands
The MHDA may have to travel to Matawa communities in all weather. They may have to lift, carry, and manage equipment and supplies. They may have to work odd or long hours at a time to complete special requests or projects. The MHDA may have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment, computers and attending meetings.
Environmental Conditions
The Matawa Education Department may be a busy facility. The MHDA may have to manage several tasks at one time, and they may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of the MECC. The MHDA may find the environment to be busy, noisy and will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.

Sensory Demands
Sensory demands can include reading and use of the computer, which may cause eyestrain and occasional headaches. The Education Department may be noisy and busy making it difficult at times for the MHDA to concentrate.

Mental Demands
The MHDA will have to manage several requests and tasks at one time. They must be aware of all Tribal Council business in the community and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. They may have to complete a number of tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations as they arise.

**Salary**: $45,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
