kēhtēyak (Elder)/Knowledge Keeper

**Job Description**:
The fulltime kēhtēyak (Elder)/Knowledge Keeper will provide cultural guidance and supports to oskāyak (youth) and families connected to the nīkinān oskāyak Centre, as well as to the Youth Centre Staff. They will also implement and facilitate cultural teachings, pakitahwākan sākahikan (Sturgeon Lake First Nation) knowledge and ceremonies. They will work closely with the Traditional Health Coordinator who coordinates direct and indirect cultural services to pakitahwākan sākahikan to develop and enhance the cultural service practices for pakitahwākan sākahikan. The fulltime kēhtē-aya/Knowledge Keeper will work with the nīkinān oskāyak Centre Manager to determine where they can best support oskāyak through sharing values and practices, leading ceremony, and other engagements, and advancing our work of reawakening our nehiyāwātisiwin (Cree Cultural Tradition).

Qualifications:

- Experience in a social services organization developing and delivering cultural programs and services.
- Experience working with First Nations people, organizations, and Nations.
- Recognized and respected by their own Nation as someone who has lived experience and a learned understanding of First Nations worldviews, and their traditional teachings and they carry themselves within the Nation according to those teachings.
- Must have demonstrated a history of providing cultural support and ceremonies.

Knowledge Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of the history and culture of First Nations peoples.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employee/s in the preparation of ceremonies and/or events and ensure that appropriate cultural protocols are in place.
- Engage, as a healthy member of the Nation, with a strong, demonstrated ability to work respectfully with stakeholders, co-workers, students, knowledge keepers, children, youth, caregivers, and allies.
- Knowledge of child welfare practices regionally and nationally.
- Knowledge of Sturgeon Lake First Nation programs and services.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of nēhiyaw culture, values, and traditions.
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions.
