Newcomer Mental Health Facilitator

**WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY?**
The primary objective of the** Newcomer Mental Health Facilitator** **is to support people with Refugee and Protected Persons Status to experience successful settlement and a sense of belonging in the community. The program promotes the wellbeing of refugees through the provision of trauma informed psychoeducational groups, community education sessions, community engagement, mental health resource consultations, and orientation to the mainstream mental health system, all provided through a lens of cultural humility.
The **Newcomer Mental Health** Facilitator **will collaboratively develop, facilitate, and evaluate psycho-educational group programming, mental health consultation, and outreach activities for people with Refugee and Protected Persons Status. This position requires an individual who brings energy and creativity to their work and involves teamwork within the Newcomer Wellbeing team, internal Camino programs, and external community partners.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:
- Facilitate development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative wellbeing programs that support refugee mental health.
- Provide consultation for refugees to help brainstorm and connect participants to mental health resources, services and interventions that support their current mental health needs.
- Connect with refugees by providing mental health outreach services at local high schools, community centres and other community locations to promote community based mental health services and relevant Camino and community programs.
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices in serving refugees, ensuring that the project activities remain responsive to the needs of clients and community partners.
- Knowledge and experience with issues of systemic racism, religious discrimination and inequality facing Newcomers and LGBTQ+ youth and their parents and caregivers and its effects on mental health.
- Complete all required documentation and participant records according to program and organization expectations.
- Meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities, including the completion of individualized reports, & attending appointments with clients
- Maintain monthly statistics and expenses
- As part of the team, ensure that service targets and mandate for Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada are met
- Work with staff and leadership to develop and promote safe and inclusive spaces and programs for staff and participants
- Identify potential partnership opportunities within the community in order to promote mental health and wellbeing for refugees.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality for the protection of the participants.
- Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in responding to clients needs.
- Identify and share trends and issues presented by participants and the community with the broader team and leadership.
- Represent the agency and maintain professional relationships with community agencies and participants, providing knowledge in the field of Newcomer mental health.
- Promote a positive and professional image of Camino.
- Participate in client and program evaluations as required.
- Attend team meetings, department meetings and organizational events
- Attend monthly supervision with clinical manager or supervisor
**WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR**:
- Post-secondary education relevant to mental health and wellbeing (SSW, CYC, BSW, MSW)
- At least 3 years of experience supporting the mental health of children, youth and adults.
