Position Overview:
- The project manager will lead the creation of the City’s first-ever Municipal Newcomer Strategy which will focus on identifying opportunities for the municipality to support newcomers in our community. The primary responsibilities of the project manager will include: overall project management and strategy development, the creation of a comprehensive community engagement plan to inform the strategy; research and analysis of newcomer needs, and ongoing collaboration with municipal staff and community partners.-
- Reporting to the Manager, Service Coordination & Improvement (CSD), the Project Manager will work closely with members of the senior management team, City Council, and key community partners to lead the development of the Municipal Newcomer Strategy.**Responsibilities**:
- Provides expert project management support and ensures the work of developing the Municipal Newcomer Strategy is implemented using best practices in project management through all phases of its work (initiation, planning, implementation, closure).
- Leads the collaborative creation of a detailed Project Plan that will include at a minimum: (1) a Project Charter, (2) project timeline (3) project budget, (4) comprehensive community engagement plan.
- Develops and leads an extensive community engagement process intended to gather input from newcomers and community organizations that support newcomers in our community.
- Serves as the project’s primary point of contact with Corporate Communications in the development of an integrated internal and external communications plan to promote the strategy development.
- Tracks and manages the project budget and timelines. Provides regular progress reports against the approved project timeline and budget and makes recommendations when changes are required to stay on time and on budget.
- Establishes and manages a regular meeting cycle for project stakeholders, ensuring necessary documents and information are developed and shared with members in advance of meeting to facilitate productive meetings.
- Acts as a vocal and visible champion of the work and values of the Municipal Newcomer Strategy amongst key stakeholders, including but not limited to: Kitchener City Council, City of Kitchener Corporate Leadership Team, community partner organizations, media and the public.
- Coordinates and writes all necessary project reports required for key stakeholders, including City Council, community partner organizations, the City’s Corporate Leadership Team and the public.
- Leads the development, and City Council approval, of the final City of Kitchener Municipal Newcomer Strategy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:
- 3 year degree/diploma.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience managing complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute a project plan that collaboratively engages a wide variety of stakeholders while ensuring project timelines are met.
- Knowledge of, and experience in community engagement best practices.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully completing projects on-time and on-budget.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Planning, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Superior written, oral and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and maintain relationships.
- Skill in the use of a personal computer using software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
