**Job Position: Community Resource Engagement Worker**

**YAAACE**: Founded in 2007, the Youth Association for Academics, Athletics and Character Education (YAAACE) is a community organization that seeks to engage children and youth - particularly those from marginalized and poor under-resourced communities through participation in year-round comprehensive programming and activities
(academics, athletics, recreation, community safety, technology and the arts). YAAACE predominantly serves families in communities located in northwest Toronto. **New Narrative**:The initiative offers a wide range of services and programs to reduce risk factors for individuals that have been exposed to community violence, impacted by the justice system and other institutions. This multi-sectoral community-driven direct intervention project includes the following components: family support and mental wellbeing; learning and education training; case management; and employment training/support. The focus of programs and services are aimed at violence prevention and intervention, particularly with racialized communities in northwest
Toronto. The model features frontline risk intervention services led by who have lived experience and deep connections in northwest Toronto, which strengthens their capacity to build rapport and constructively intervene with youth most vulnerable to being involved in serious violence and crime.

**youth they serve and the community.**

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Administrative**:

- Manage a caseload of 10-15 youth and their families
- Inform and access a spectrum of culturally appropriate and relevant services
- Make appropriate referrals to social workers and other community services
- Ongoing participation in training and personal capacity building activities
- Required participation in therapeutic group sessions and regular one on one sessions to support well-being
- Collaborate with the team to make revisions on the implementation of the initiative with a particular focus on case management
- Work with Cohort member to develop customized care and safety plans
- Keep daily updated case notes within case management system
- Engage with the evaluation team to inform the reporting and evaluation of the project

**Outreach and Engagement**:

- Conduct client intakes, assessments, goal setting
- Responds to crisis situations and facilitates internal and external referrals as appropriate
- Develops client-centred, individualized care plans, including appropriate interventions and safety planning as required
- Works as a high functioning member of a team
- Participates in client care conferences with other providers to ensure coordination of services to the client
- Facilitate workshops regarding violence prevention within schools, institutions and community
- Advocates for client rights and benefits - as individuals, groups, or communities

- Conduct direct community-based engagement and outreach in in communities in northwest Toronto to establish a consistent presence with youth in the local neighbourhoods
- Provide in-person mentorship, supports and connections to resources for youth who are impacted by gun/gang violence, incarceration, grief/loss, exposure to community violence
- Identify risk factors and pivotal points of interruption to prevent escalation and reduce the impact of violence
- Identify and intervene in situations that could result in severe community violence (i.e., retaliation, targeting, etc.)
- Engage in restorative justice practices to de-escalate conflicts and encourage resolutions
- Building and maintaining healthy and constructive relationships with cohorts, their families and community partners
- Maintain awareness of historical and newly emerging community tensions, conflicts, alliances, etc.
- Other duties as assigned from program lead.

**Key Qualifications**

**Education and Preferred Knowledge**:

- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent
- Lived experiences of incarceration, street culture, and/or community violence through exposure
- Practical experience providing direct support and/or program delivery to youth vulnerable to involvement in serious violence and crime
- Experience working with racialized youth in the justice system.
- Knowledge and understanding of gun/gang violence, violence interruption and intervention strategies and conflict resolution
- Understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by racialized communities
- General knowledge of community and social service resources, in parti
