In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Conestoga College acknowledges the historical and contemporary challenges Indigenous communities face with academic research, and the ongoing legacies of colonialism across the research enterprise. We are committed to advancing reconciliation and decolonization by supporting research with, by, and for Indigenous communities in ways which emphasize reciprocity, relevance, responsibility, respect, and are grounded in relationship-building.

Reporting to the Vice President, Research and working closely with the Director, Indigenous Initiatives, the Indigenous Research Lead will support Indigenous-led research activities. This role will provide specialized support for faculty-led projects, foster new research partnerships and funding opportunities, and coordinate efforts between Research and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, ensuring alignment with the College's Indigenization strategies and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action.

**Responsibilities**:

- Advise, guide, and support faculty in developing and executing Indigenous-led research projects
- Assist with research proposals, ensuring alignment with Indigenous methodologies and perspectives
- Understand literature and legislative requirements for Indigenous research and frameworks (e.g., Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles, OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) principles
- Use project management skills to support and report on research initiatives and ensure alignment with community priorities
- Coordinate with partners, collaborators, and team members to create project plans, deliverables, and milestones
- Act as a liaison between Conestoga and Indigenous community partners to ensure culturally respectful and effective project outcome
- Ensure all research activities comply with Elder and Youth Council Advisory Committee and Research Ethics Board (REB) requirements
- Identify and pursue research partnerships with Indigenous communities and institutions
- Build relationships with Regional Indigenous communities
- Support Indigenous faculty and develop processes and policies that promote success and remove barriers
- Collaborate to develop new processes for integrating Indigenous knowledge with research guidelines and best practices
- Act as a liaison between the Research department and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives
- Advance Indigenous Ways of Knowing and research practices
- Ensure research aligns with Conestoga's Indigenization strategies and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action
- Engage with Indigenous communities to understand their research needs and priorities
- Promote Indigenous research initiatives through events, workshops and council meetings
- Develop communications and resources to raise awareness of Indigenous research methodologies and issues
- Identify training opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to advance indigenous research initiatives

**Qualifications**:

- Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences or a related field of study
- Significant experience in research and research project management is required; familiarity with research methodologies and data analysis techniques that are informed by Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
- Demonstrated competencies in traditional Indigenous knowledge are valued and will contribute to meeting the preferred qualification requirements
- Commitment to respectful relationships with all Indigenous peoples and nations, project management, research data collection, familiarity and knowledge of Indigenous Research Methodologies, and OCAP Principles
- Experience working within a college or other academic research environment is an asset
- Knowledge of MS Office suite of tools and how to use for data collection, report writing and communication
- Excellent communication skills are essential, alongside the ability to maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders in government and industry
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively within institutional and funding agency guidelines
- Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and conflict management skills
- Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, independence, tact, and sound judgement in decision-making
