**Position Summary**
Under the general direction of the Regional Director, Racing Operations, the Horse & Equipment Identifier is responsible for the overall care and control of the paddock, including conducting regular inspections, providing direction, and maintaining the paddock through reporting to ensure adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example and supports Great Canadian’s learning environment while establishing a safe and welcoming work environment for all team members.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Inspect horses for changes in equipment, broken or faulty equipment and saddle pads;
- Responsible for collecting, washing and disinfecting all saddle pads after last race;
- Responsible for keeping a record of the equipment and harness worn by every horse racing at the meeting. The equipment and harness worn by every horse shall be checked in the paddock against such records before each race. All changes from the previous race shall be noted and the Judges notified if an authorization on the prescribed form is not presented for any change of equipment;
- Responsible for the identification of horses in the race which shall include verifying the tattoo or freeze brand number, or identifying microchip;
- Maintain cleanliness of the paddock including sweeping and other duties as required;
- Supervise the conduct of all participants in the paddock and report any rule violations or abuses to the Paddock Judge;
- Report any observed cruelty to a horse;
- Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations;
- Perform other duties as required.
**Education and Qualifications**
- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Experience working with and around horses
- Knowledge of operations & regulations pertaining to Standardbred Racing.
- Good interpersonal and organizational abilities
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision; honesty / reliability
- Must successfully pass a criminal and credit record check by the Gaming and Policy Enforcement Branch (GPEB) - Racing
- A passion for providing Great Experiences and Memories to our internal and external guests in the continual quest of achieving service excellence
**Work Environment Considerations**
Regular office environment, non-traditional work hours may be required in certain circumstances.
