**Your Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Pathologists’ Assistant II, MLT II, and the Anatomical Pathology Supervisor, this position provides assistance to Pathologists in performing basic gross tissue examination. MLA II-Histoassistants perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to collections and/or specimen processing, quality management, troubleshooting, and general support. All duties and responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Assistant I plus the following: Prepare and perform gross surgical non-complex specimen dissection according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) up to and including level IV. Assists pathologists, pathology assistants, grossing techs when grossing complex specimens. Receives, prepares, processes and accessions surgical samples according to standard laboratory protocols. Operate, maintain and perform basic troubleshooting of all instruments, equipment and procedures. Maintains, cleans, decontaminates and organizes work areas based on LEAN Six Sigma principles and SOPs. Acts in a professional manner demonstrating effective and positive communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills, team attitude and conflict resolution methods with co-workers, other laboratory personnel, and other internal and external clients. Participate in training new staff and students. Collaborates on the preparation of manuals and SOPs. Perform other related duties as required.

**Description**:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will be responsible for pre-analytical specimen handling, transport, accessioning, processing and storage. You will also be responsible for responding to inquiries, cleaning, monitoring and preventative maintenance of lab equipment and work areas, maintaining common supplies, updating inventories and data sheets and participating in lab quality and safety requirements.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

Strong data entry skills. Beaker Requisition Entry experience is an asset. Proficiency in data entry. Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
