About the role
In conjunction with the Manager, this position is responsible for shipping and receiving and supplies inventory at two warehouse locations.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Organize and handle all aspects of global shipping, receiving, storage, container pickup at ports (e.g., Vancouver, Delta, Montreal) and handle ALS brokers, ocean shipment suppliers and get quotes on behalf of ALS as and when needed.
- Ensure incoming supply shipments are delivered to the proper locations in a timely manner.
- Create paperwork for shipments leaving from ALS vendors who do not have the expertise needed and arrange shipping of the same. Vendors e.g. Qualicase, Alpha, Delta, MIT
- Conduct inventory counts of specific supplies on weekly and monthly basis and report.
- Responsible for ALS vehicle inspection, mobile equipment including forklifts and their maintenance.
- Uses safe work practices to perform all tasks.
- Follows all quality procedures and guidelines including buddy verification system.
- Follow working instructions, SOP’s.
- Train new and existing staff to ensure smooth operation and supervise to ensure all protocols are followed.
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
**About you**:
- Good organizational skills are required.
- Ability to work independently or as a part of the team.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Good hand/eye coordination.
- Capable of managing workflow in a time efficient and quality conscious manner.
- Excellent English communication; written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- MS Office - Excel (advanced functions e.g., pivot table), Word, Access, PowerPoint
- Knowledge in SAP, ERP is an asset.
- Experience in international and domestic shipping via air, ocean and ground with knowledge of all paper works required e.g., commercial invoice, packing slip, waybill, inspection document, booking confirmation, dangerous goods documents and custom documents etc.
- Experience in shipping to South America, Arica, Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Australia, Middle East is an asset.
- Be able to work with custom brokerage.
- Experience in arranging carriers for domestic as well as FCL and LCL container shipments.
**Required Qualifications**:
- College diploma or university degree preferred.
- Valid Canadian driver’s license with clean driving history required.
- Forklift license and experience operating a forklift an asset (on site certification will be required.
- Minimum two years previous experience in shipping and receiving.
- Previous warehouse experience preferred.
- Excellent Safety record
**Physical Demands**:
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time throughout the shift.
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment.
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends as needed.
