**About Us**:
The Western Communications team at Western provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the university’s brand on a local, national and global scale.

**Responsibilities**:
The Video and Motion Graphics Specialist will create and execute videos and other relevant digital content, using an array of video, animation, motion graphics, photography, and other techniques. The role will support the overall strategic direction of the University through the delivery of powerful content, which enhances Western’s ability to build its brand locally, nationally, and internationally. This includes creating content that inspires and engages our diverse audiences and enhances Western’s reputation through visual storytelling. The Video and Motion Graphics Specialist will also assist in the resolution of technical issues in both production and post-production stages of a project and will provide guidance regarding best practices.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- College diploma related to video shooting/ editing/ storytelling and motion graphics
- Bachelor’s in Communications or Journalism preferred
- Film Drone flying certification would be an asset
- Experience:
- 3 years of multimedia design/production
- 3 years of experience in story telling via videography
- Experience with advanced video storytelling techniques on multiple platforms
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong conceptual thinking with the ability to resolve technical and/or design issues
- Strong project management skills and a high comfort level with managing multiple projects at a given time
- Effective time management skills with an ability to deliver consistently high-quality work, even in the face of changing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening skills with an ability to interpret complex ideas and translate them into videos
- Proven ability to be a strategic thinker with strong initiative and independence
- Exceptional core video skills, including a high command of shooting, sound recording and editing, camera operation, lighting, computers and software used to produce videos
- Knowledge of social media and how to engage audiences on digital platforms in the public space
- Competency in videography principles from storyboarding and scripting through to final editing - showing proficiency with branding guidelines using video motion graphics software such as Motion, and/or After Effects, Premiere and Final Cut Pro
- A deep understanding of required equipment and filming using both a DSLR and video specific cameras, recording and syncing audio, as well as lighting and compositing techniques
- Ability to work within compositor, layer based (AfterEffects) and/or node based (Nuke), Graphics and photo editing
- An understanding of graphic design principles including layout, typography, colour, etc.
- Ability to write and work with expressions within AfterEffects is an asset
- Excellent technical knowledge of non-broadcast video equipment
- Advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier and/or Final Cut Pro, and video compression tools
- Ability to shoot, edit and distribute 360 degree video
- Ability to perform audio manipulation including noise removal and addition
