**Role Responsibilities**:

If so, the Rocky Forest Area is looking for you to put your pre-suppression, suppression and forest management experience to the test.

As a Forest Officer, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of forest area programs and services. Reporting to the Wildfire Technologist, your knowledge and experience in wildfire management activities will compliment the forest areas pre-suppression, suppression, prevention, detection, facilities and forest management programs. Your previous experience will help you become a strong supervisor to seasonal staff, contract management and department assets. You will learn how to become an active participant on wildfire incident management teams and help support the Province when the need arises. You will actively contribute to wildfire enforcement, education and engineering initiatives as well as ensure programs are meeting the highest of safety standards.

Core responsibilities will include coordinating the forest areas facilities program and contract services program. You will also supervise lookout staff and ensure the forest areas detection program is meeting or exceeding program deliverables. You will also be required to use the Forest and Prairie Protection act to help enforce fire prevention components. You will also assist with local Fire Smart initiatives and fuel management projects. This position will also be involved with the delivery of Forest Management activities such as the Forest Operations Monitoring (FOMP) by conducting inspections and assisting with non-compliance investigations.

**Qualifications**:
The minimum requirements for Forest Officer role are a two-year diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management field plus three (3) years of directly related forestry or wildfire experience.

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

**Assets**:

- Certified as a Type 4 Incident Commander.
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Contract management experience.
- Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals.

**Notes**:
This position is a permanent, full-time role, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evening and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.

Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
