Role Responsibilities

Are you eager to kick-start your career in Wildfire Management and Forest Management? Perhaps you are a recent graduate, ready to learn the ropes and make a real impact or already have a solid foundation or some seasonal wildfire experience and are now ready to showcase your skills in a exciting, adventurous and rewarding location. If so, the Rocky Forest Area is looking for you to put your pre-suppression, suppression and forest management experience to the test.

As a Forest Officer, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of forest area programs and services. Reporting to the Wildfire Technologist, your knowledge and experience in wildfire management activities will compliment the forest areas pre-suppression, suppression, prevention, detection, facilities and forest management programs. Your previous experience will help you become a strong supervisor to seasonal staff, contract management and department assets. You will learn how to become an active participant on wildfire incident management teams and help support the Province when the need arises. You will actively contribute to wildfire enforcement, education and engineering initiatives as well as ensure programs are meeting the highest of safety standards.

Core responsibilities will include coordinating the forest areas facilities program and contract services program. You will also supervise lookout staff and ensure the forest areas detection program is meeting or exceeding program deliverables. You will also be required to use the Forest and Prairie Protection act to help enforce fire prevention components. You will also assist with local Fire Smart initiatives and fuel management projects.
